Is badge orientation that big of an issue? My preference is for a 13" tom in a snare stand anyway. Horses for courses I guess...
Yeah but why use snare stand when you have those huge techware mounts on the kick and tom already?

I hate snare stands for toms. I like the WAY the drum sounds and interacts with the bass drum mounted on the bass drum. To me there isn't that much of a difference sonically between a 12 and a 13. Especially with Gretsch since the 12 only has 5 lugs.Like you said different strokes for different folks!
I know what you mean, normally a snare stand chokes the drum and kills the lows but if you glue a piece of foam on the stand where the rim sits in the basket it all comes back... sounds like the drum is on a RIMS system but you get the positioning and independence of it being essentially a stand alone item. That being said, I like my tom a little further to the left (not to mention I play a 26" so the height over the kick is ridiculous... not to mention its a virgin drum with clip one spurs so wobble wobble wobble) and I tune reasonably high for a rock context so I like the added depth/lows of the 13". Whatever floats your boat!
Here it is with the 13" tom

OK! Now you're talkin'! I don't like a tom on a snare stand either and I'm not a fan of the 22,12,16 config. The 13 looks great....we're used to seeing those tone controls facing out. Great looking G's!
