It's curious though the number of twenty something drummers that prefer vintage. I recently sold my blue sparkle 1967 Club Date to a twenty-one year old. Its what he wanted. Said he likes three-ply aged shells. These people are doing their home-work and understand sonic differences between older aged three-ply construction and newer shells.
Very true!!
I'm twenty, and I prefer 3-ply over 6-ply! Born in the wrong era I guess :p
Supraphonic, (I'm assuming you possess a Ludwig Supra 400)?
You're twenty. We are all over 95 here ;)
Maybe 3-ply shells will bridge the generation gap?
Tell us what genre of music you play and why you like 3-ply vintage?
Cheers!

95?
Wow, I'm an old "toot," but that's pushing it a bit! :)
I've had the priviledge of dealing with a couple of 20's guys just in the last few months... both not only wanting vintage stuff, but both having a genuine respect for it as well!
And, you know what? IF it wasn't for the vintage drums, let me tell you we had little in common! So, this is definately a generation gap bridge!

I do own a '71 Supra! Finding that snare changed my (musical) life :p
I play all kinds of music made in the years between WO I and the Vietnam War ('20's to 80's :p) but also very modern funky stuff!!
I like 3-ply because I have the feeling I can really communicate with them, they tell me stuff (does that makes sence?? :p)
and they look bloody AWESOME!!
to go back on topic: the new clubdates are 6PLY Mind Blowi and only available in 5 wraps or so :( Why Ludwig, Why????
Supra,
Wow! a Supra changed your musical life...good to hear.
Wondering if Ludwig maybe should have considered the more expensive 3-ply with re-rings option when they introduced the new Club Dates? Perhaps to keep costs down which was the original marketing plan for CD's in the past. Why not the key-stone badge either as on the Legacy Classics? All these decisions were made in the board room with the marketing team...sigh...
