My new '72? Vistalite Last viewed: 10 hours ago

So let me get this straight. You bought the kit (including a rare 14x14 floor tom none the less) and then you smashed it on volcanic rock so that all the seams cracked. Hmmmm Now you are asking for advice on how to fix the drums. Heres an idea: next time you buy a nice vintage kit, don't smash it for a stupid music video. Bam! Problem solved.

Well I guess the drums were already cracked when my lead singer bought them I found out.

But they got a nice salty clean from the ocean!

Pretty cool pics looks like a fun time. Until the dunk in the water that is. Good action shot though. Did the camera guy see a huge wave coming up behind you guys?? And then like had a "oh $#it" look on his face?? Mind Blowi

Yes good advice given here. Hopefully someone can clean up the hardware for you. As stated salt water really attacks some metals and finishes.

Not many guys would post pics of their vintage vistas having a swim. So a thumbs up from me. A Kodak moment to remember for sure though!! :)

Glenn.

Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

Now there's a project. Saltwater fish tank Vistalite kit. I'm not so sure the fish would appreciate the constant depth charge sound waves every time you hit the drum head. Eye Ball

Time to make these Vistalites shine. Whoever takes off all of the hardware to clean off the saltwater, just have them label and bag up the hardware. This will be a perfect time to polish up and remove some scratches from the shells. You have to re-glue the seams, so why have the hardware re-installed before they come back to California.

I feel better knowing they were already cracked. Hope you got a deal on em. They will be better than new after you weld-on those puppies.

Hey yeah it was great.. We saw the tide coming up and braced ourselves and survived a few times and we were trying to shoot this certain shot and just took too long..

no was was seriously hurt and the drums only have a minor scratch from the lava rock.

You gotta see the video.. its insane!

Good point.. shipping the drums without the hardware i guess would be the same as shipping them with it right?

I was tempted to stick a fish in the floor tom and pull a Keith Moon haha. But the tree huggers would be angry with me.

After I cleaned the drums they really looked nice but I am deff going to take care of the hardware.

Good. We bought them for 700..with the matching snare and without knowing about the cracked seams. Thats kinda a lot but we really needed the kit for our music videos and being in Hawaii we didn't really have too many options..

shipping a kit from the mainland out there is a pain, a lot of sellers wont ship a vintage kit to hawaii.

We bought them for the videos and were planning on selling them afterwards but I fell in love with them and want to restore them now.

Is there a way you can show the video? I would like to see it. Sorry to hear about your drums taking a plung. Glad to hear they will be saved, because they are really nice!
