Hey Glenn,
To quote BTO.........you ain't seen nothing yet!
Have all the shells polished with Novus 1 and 2..and they just gleam now!
Have all the metal parts cleaned now...except for 8 lugs...they have shined up really nice...there is some light pitting on them though....
I have been putting in some hours on this kit!
Re the tree/ornaments....that was Betty's work...she just loves Christmas!:Snow Flake:x-mas2
I have lots of drum Christmas ornaments myself...that was just one of many..
Have to dig them out of the garage soon! Glad you liked it...
There was just a limited run of 12 Premier BD tree ornaments on eBay very recently...with The Who's logo on them...should have bought 2 of them.....darn it!..$9 each!
Should have the drums back together in 1 -2 days...!
Will put up pics then...get your sunglasses ready!electricit
Tim,
think I have to run Remo's all round on this...as I have to use the special order per-International ones on the 12" anyway..and I don't like to mix brands...and yes,,Fibreskins would look cool on these..aren't they quite a bit more though?
Very nice! Are you planning to remove the blue paint from the insides of the shells? Since it's so light, it shouldn't be too difficult. I think Premier shell interiors are just as much a work of art as the outsides of the drums. Plus, it will make you feel better in the long run. What heads are you going to use? Remo Ambassadors all the way around? In case you didn't have the Remo pre-international part numbers:
BA-0112-PR- Batter, AMBASSADOR®, Coated, 12" Diameter, 11-7/8" Actual Diameter, For Premier-Sized Drums BA-0116-PR- Batter, AMBASSADOR®, Coated, 16" Diameter, 16-5/16" Actual Diameter, For Premier-Sized Drums BA-0212-PR- Batter, AMBASSADOR®, SMOOTH WHITETM, 12" Diameter, 11-7/8" Actual Diameter, For Premier-Sized Drums BA-0216-PR- Batter, AMBASSADOR®, SMOOTH WHITETM, 16" Diameter, 16-5/16" Actual Diameter, For Premier-Sized Drums BA-0312-PR- Batter, AMBASSADOR®, Clear, 12" Diameter, 11-7/8" Actual Diameter, For Premier-Sized Drums BA-0316-PR- Batter, AMBASSADOR®, Clear, 16" Diameter, 16-5/16" Actual Diameter, For Premier-Sized Drums BD-0316-PR- Batter, DIPLOMAT®, Clear, 16" Diameter, 16-5/16" Actual Diameter, For Premier-Sized Drums BE-0112-PR- Batter, EMPEROR®, Coated, 12" Diameter, 11-7/8" Actual Diameter, For Premier-Sized Drums BE-0116-PR- Batter, EMPEROR®, Coated, 16" Diameter, 16-5/16" Actual Diameter, For Premier-Sized Drums BE-0312-PR- Batter, EMPEROR®, Clear, 12" Diameter, 11-7/8" Actual Diameter, For Premier-Sized Drums BE-0316-PR- Batter, EMPEROR®, Clear, 16" Diameter, 16-5/16" Actual Diameter, For Premier-Sized Drums CS-0312-PR- Batter, CONTROLLED SOUND®, Clear, 12" Diameter, White Dot On Top, 11-7/8" Actual Diameter, For Premier-Sized Drums CS-0316-PR- Batter, CONTROLLED SOUND®, Clear, 16" Diameter, White Dot On Top, 16-5/16" Actual Diameter, For Premier-Sized Drums FA-0512-PR- Batter, FIBERSKYN®, FA Film, 12" Diameter, 11-7/8" Actual Diameter, For Premier-Sized Drums FA-0516-PR- Batter, FIBERSKYN®, FA Film, 16" Diameter, 16-5/16" Actual Diameter, For Premier-Sized Drums PS-0112-PR- Batter, PINSTRIPE®, Coated, 12" Diameter, 11-7/8" Actual Diameter, For Premier-Sized Drums PS-0116-PR- Batter, PINSTRIPE®, Coated, 16" Diameter, 16-5/16" Actual Diameter, For Premier-Sized Drums PS-0312-PR- Batter, PINSTRIPE®, Clear, 12" Diameter, 11-7/8" Actual Diameter, For Premier-Sized Drums PS-0316-PR- Batter, PINSTRIPE®, Clear, 16" Diameter, 16-5/16" Actual Diameter, For Premier-Sized Drums SA-0112-PR- Snare, AMBASSADOR®, Hazy, 12" Diameter, 11-7/8" Actual Diameter, For Premier-Sized Drums VA-0112-PR- Batter, Vintage AMBASSADOR®, Coated, 12'' Diameter, 11-7/8" Actual Diameter, For Premier-Sized Drums VA-0116-PR- Batter, Vintage AMBASSADOR®, Coated, 16'' Diameter, 16-5/16" Actual Diameter, For Premier-Sized Drums
FiberSkyns would look really cool on this kit.-Tim
Hi Blair.
Tell Betty she does a GREAT job!! Clapping Happy2
Glad to hear the shells are cleaning up well. Look forward to the after pictures when your done. The snare looks pretty mint as is in the before picture. ;) All die cast hoops on those? Premier has such classy hardware. Look like they are parts off a Rolls or a Jag. So nice!
Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

Yes,all die cast...except BD Eye Ball
There is the most wear on the snare rims...in between each lug screw...looks like it got used more then the rest of the set...sure glad they didn't paint that drum!Clapping Happy2
Think I found some re-pro wires in UK..but they are around $80 to my door...have to grab em...want to play the thing!
I am just going to put them back together today I think...
nothing else to do and it's 22 degrees F out........BRRR......
I wonder why they didn't use chrome screws on the plates that goes on the tom and BD and FT brackets? They almost look nickel, and stand out..
I might go to a vintage hardware store here and pop for chrome screws...but..I think they want an arm and a leg for them.....crying2-07
Beautiful kit!!! I would love for an 18" Premier kick drum myself, I could put the rest of a bop kit together rather quickly!
Thanks Jim R...
Things have slowed down finally, and I think I can do pics soon of the drums ....
They sure shine compared to when I got them!
I usually only mess with early -mid 70's Prems...so this was a learning experience for me....
I HATE the shallow Philip head screws they used to hold the lugs on....and after the FOOL painted over them with blue paint.....even less for the screwdriver to grab onto....
Then,to make things worse....they used star washers that bite right into the wood, making them very hard to take out if you wanted to...making dismantling them to clean a real pain! You can't get Vice Grips to back them out if you wanted to...GRRRRRRR
So,soon I am going to a very nice hardware store I know of....and getting whatever METRIC screws that fit the lugs they have that hopefully take a flat head screwdriver to drive them in,and buying just regular washers and lock washers to finish the Bd...
That's part of the reason I haven't completed the set........always something.....Mister T
That Premier is looking beautiful!I love to get that perfect set when I buy. But,in some ways it is more gratifying to get one and have some work to be done.Am I crazy or does anyone else feel that way?Git er done.....waiting for the pics!
Example of Rogers,Slingerland,Gretsch,Premier and Ajax sets.
Various '60's and '70's US,English and Japanese snare drums.
HELP,NEED MORE SPACE!
Probably too late, but DO NOT use Metric threads.
Premier lugs use 5/32" 32tpi BSW (Whitworth)
I think Gretsch & Ludwig are also 5/32 32thread , but I don't know what standard, so they may well be 60° flat peak as opposed to the 55° rounded peak BSW; This usually doesn't matter as they will fit and pull tight.
Meccano uses the 5/32" 32tpi BSW, and has stainless allen key bolts these days, you probably don't want the old zinc cheeseheads :¬)
As far as the blue paint, I assume it's too late, But i wouldnt use a solvent, as it will only run the paint deeper into the grain. Personally I would just sand it off along the grain. Hard work, but worth it.
Cheers,
Sam
Sweet Kit! I have a early 70s 707 kit. Out of all the kits I have, I'd say it tunes the easiest. Those cast hoops are something else. And those shells! They really are incredible. Have to be played to be believed. The only reason why I don't play them is because they're plain white.lol
