I'll bet these Ludwig ball mounts will work. The arms fit my '69 Ludwig Standard tom lug. I have this spare double mount in the closet.
Minor setback! UGH! Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Looking good so far. Didn't realize that the arm wouldn't work. That sucks. Glad that you have found a solution.
When I bought an atlas mount to install in place of a lug, it came with various inserts. I used an insert to make my original 60's cymbal arm fit it. Aren't the cymbal arms about the same size as the L arm for them tom? If they are, I wonder why that wouldn't work. I guess the atlas arch doesn't use a regular L arm though right?

Mike,
Those adaptors will let you put smaller diameter arms (like a vintage cymbal arm) into the Atlas mounts but Surface needed to do the opposite thing, which is put the Atlas arch rod into an original Ludwig bracket. Current Ludwig uses a 10.5mm arm while vintage Ludwig was 9.5mm (3/8ths inch) so the ball arm that comes with the arch is too big for the vintage brackets. Once he gets the right ball-arm into his upright it will work slick as snot with the original bracket.
I wasn't willing to drill my "virgin' KB 14x18 for a rail either but the arch has let me leave a snare stand home and still puts my tom right where I want it. It just took one change and about ten bucks to make it do what I wanted.
I'm just glad I ran across this thread before Nevin did anything drastic to his tom or bass drum.

Thanks again Kevin. $10 dollar item saved my day. Looking forward to receiving it.
If ever you are willing to let go of your kit (fat chance I know) but would appreciate first chance at her! I collect blue sparkle and red sparkles to boot, and would be a nice addition for sure! Thanks again!

By the way Mike....I couldn't stand it. Hope you don't mind but detailing your project. Was calling my name at the moment!
That doesn't surprise me.lol. Ive done the same to others before! Trying to make the stars align for early March hopefully.

Awesome solution, bookmarked this thread for when I do this mount! :)
This is what you need.. No drilling, no waiting for that pesky ball socket arm..Btw, the mount fits both vintage and modern Ludwig because it comes with 2 nylon sleeves that are inserted into the hole space..
Very nice kit btw, and in my favorite finish !
I also have been told/shown that the atlas mount will fit in the original holes for a tom mount or a cymbal mount. According to my measurements from the specifications, the atlas mount was too short. According to some friends, it does fit. However, Ludwig has said that this mount was designed to replace the lug and be a mount. Not just be a mount. Still would work though. Just fyi stuff.

My mind is MUSH!
After I ordered a new arm (to be here tomorrow), I am out in my drum room, detailing a bass drum, and I look over on a shelf that I have, cluttered I know, and behold, there is this mount pictured.
