Hi All

I wanted to share this find I made a few years back. The drummers widow had this drum in a case since the late seventies when he retired from playing and sadly passed away two years ago. The wood is pristine and the pearl is hardly faded. I took some pics to show.. What do you think? I don't play this , although it sounds awesome, and have kept it stored. I plan on selling it.

I was advised to use linseed oil to help preserve the wood. Have done that in the past and it does work well but this is a pricey drum am I don't want to taint the value.. DO any of you know anything about using linseed oil to prevent cracking and drying of the wood..

thanks

If you're planning on selling it, let the buyer worry about preservation and restoration.

Beautiful drum in a beautiful finish. I doubt very much you have to worry about that maple shell cracking. More than likely has adequate finish on it already.

Super rare/nice drum you have there...

In around 1989...I was offered the same drum...but in Cadillac Green for.......$400!

Gold plated hardware.....

Had it in my hands and everything!

I called someone (long distance) who I thought knew more then me about vintage drums...and he said

"I don't think I would pay that for one"! So,I passed.....

MISTAKE!

Last I knew..it was in England..in a glass case!

Yes it does have a good finish intact . although I see so many drums from this era with cracks. Is there anyway to prevent the plies from splitting . This drum doesn't have that problem but I'm wondering if when it happens if it's an issue with drying from the natural aging process .. Especially on the bearing edge ..
