Glenn - you'll never have enough snares. I have 16 kits & 34 snares....

Nice! :) That's quite a collection!

Just a few observations regarding the aesthetics of a chrome snare drum. I have a set of 1975 Black Sonor Phonics with the chrome 555 snare drum. The bass drum also has factory chrome hoops with no inlays. Something about the black and chrome reminds me of a Harley Davidson motorcycle. Not very subtle but a lot of power and muscle. I use the kit for fusion gigs and they are the loudest drums I've ever played!

I have a few and prefer the downbeat to most its in champagne and I play it with my obp

clubdates

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

I think non-matching snares look fine. Having a kit with a snare with matching finish is interesting and cool from a collecting standpoint, but it's kind of unusual for me to see a drummer play a snare with a matching finish.

I think a contrasting snare can add visual interest. My current daily player is a Slingerland Hollywood Ace in red sparkle, which stands out nicely amidst my Blue Agate kit.

BTW, your '60's Slingerland outfit probably came with a chrome over brass Gene Krupa Sound King, so one of those would be the "matching snare."

What a beauty! The floor toms are 14 and 16?

The Camco floor tom is a 14, the other one is a Ludwig clubdate and is 14" as well, just tuned down a bit. It really sounds great, love to play this kit. The snare is the most valuable drum I own, a Christmas gift from my daughter. I have my Ludwig Zebra kit set up as well, I do play it but only about 10% of the time.

And, those floor toms are not on an angle, that is and illusion from the photo.

Just pointing out that matching snares don't mean a whole lot, but I am no pro drummer either.

Thank you!

Jeff I remember when you got that snare. :) Your Daughter has excellent taste in drums. Man how time fly's. Love the Camco's.
