man this forum is really going to sh!t... Last viewed: 8 hours ago

As a rule of thumb, I really try to buy locally where I can see a persons face and hand someone cash in person after I physically inspect my potential purchase. No offense meant to anyone here, but I don't know you guys and gals from Adam. If I ran into some VDF members at a show, I would likely never know nor would they. That's not my reason for not buying from forum members, my main reason is I am dirt broke!! Having said that, I do believe there is a member section where they post their information and ebay account name so you can view buyer feedback. Aside from that, as always when buying used gear it's BUYER BEWARE.

I hate eBay.

Aside from all of the above stuff, I scour forums for information and ideas mainly...and there is an abundance here. The things that make this forum great to me are the people who actually share their opinions, experiances, and views to those of us who will likely spend hundreds of dollars and months of time to learn on our own. Many of you have played long enough that you enjoyed the heyday of "vintage" instruments when they were new...people like me can only experiance that through stories cause I wasn't even a twinkle in my Dad's eye back then and I am jealous for that.

I am on 3 forums regularly, and one more off and on. VDF, two hot rod related forums, and I sometimes stop in at Peavey for information on my Classic 50. All of those forums are really great places which is why I go there. If any of them were sh!t holes full of pricks I would silently leave...not make a huge deal out of it...obviously trying to rock the boat. Like my Dad always said, "Nothin like kickin the front door down and complaining about the draft."

it seems in the past year, esp in the for sale section, SO MANY PEOPLE are bickering and slandering each other and their gear

I really love this forum, so this accusation really bothered me. Are so many people really "bickering and slandering" as RoundBadge suggests? To properly dispute (or validate) such an accusation, I had to spend my entire New Year's day re-reading all 11,267 posts in the For Sale threads dated from Jan 2012 through Jan 1, 2013, and apparently RoundBadge's assumptions are not accurate...

Only 214 posts (1.9%) contained authentic bickering and only 83 posts (0.7%) contained elements of slandering. Overwhelmingly countering this animus were 2,490 posts containing sincere compliments, 1,577 posts extending well wishes and support, and 16 posts conveying almost embarrassing levels of love and affection.

Well, the numbers don't lie. All in all, I think we're still fairly civil here, and thanks to TommyP, the VDF remains a well moderated community full of love and respect.

Well....if people FOLLOWED THE DIRECTIONS about the For Sale section by closing the thread themselves after they post it, it sure would help prevent about 99% of the public "bickering and slandering" that occurs afterwards.

Its very simple.....post an ad that has what it is, how much you want, and to PM you about it, then close the thread. When the item sells, REOPEN the thread and then REPLY that it has sold and thanks, etc. Then re-close the thread. Problem solved.

Like I said, if people would just follow directions..... DOH

+1 Best solution. It's a 4 sale ad not a thread.

Too many great drums to list here!

Well, I like the VDF very much. I have had only a couple of problems that were quickly ironed out. I will only send up a flare "a heads up thread" if another member is a potential threat to the rest of the Forum. I think Tommy and David do an outstanding job moderating this Forum. I have made alot of friends and learned, bought, sold and traded alot of great stuff from other members. Peace to all! So anyway... two drumsticks walk into a drum shop, the snare drum see's them and he says to the throne, Hey, don't let them sit here because the last time they did, they beat the crap out of me....

This is my favorite comment on here yet. It really puts things in perspective.

I have had a deal gone bad with a forum member here. At the same time, I am choosing not to let it cast a shadow over the multitude of great exchanges I have had with so many of you. I have learned so much from this forum, and also bought and sold here too.

I just posted some FS ads, then closed them. I admit, in the past, to not recognizing (and not following) this protocol as per prescribed by the admin. I have left them open in the past in hopes to discover more about the item and to garner interest. Perhaps it would be more appropriate to do so in a separate thread beforehand outside the context of a sale. Ebay and CL does not allow a discussion thread with those posts.

I share roundbadgedude 's concern, but not his frustration. Yeah, I have been upset about a particular deal, but I have not let it taint my thoughts of the forum in general; and I suspect roundbadgedude had a pure concerned motive when he started this thread and that he is concerned about this forum which he appreciates and cares about. It is healthy for us to discuss this as we have, and it would be more healthy if we follow the admin's instructions to close our FS posts once set up. Take the time to research (and collect observations) beforehand on a separate thread. The admin would not instruct us to do the FS posts that way (Close them) if they did not have a reason. Let's show some respect for them and follow it. They have done a tremendous job on here and have always been very helpful to me every time I ask for help with anything. Also, word on here indicates that while we have some issues at times with particular members, this forum, over 11000 strong, is the best, most positive, and most civil one out there.

Lastly, remember to not behave like a dysfunctional couple on here. Do not read into every passionate comment and see an implication that is not there. Remember that we are discussing drums and preferences here, not talking about each other (not throwing out attacks via implications).

Here's to a peaceful and prosperous New Year!

John

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

I find it especially sad how a member with 3 posts who is a "reporter" doesn't double check his facts regarding time, but has all the time in the world to read that person previous posts and accuse them of something without facts.

I find it especially sad that anyone would base their opinion of the veracity of a person or a post simply upon the quantity of posts a particular poster has managed to spew upon this board. If you would care to point out where my "facts regarding time" were, in your opinion, wrong. I will be more than happy to slowly walk you through the elementary math one step at a time.

As for accusing someone without facts: You Sir, haven't the slightest clue as to what facts I may be in possession of! So, before going on another unsubstantiated rant you might want to bear your own words in mind.

BBK/Phil!

Now that we have point/counterpoint... it's even. Anything else having to do with this would be best served via PM. THANKS!
