Yes Jazzbo, nothing brings back memories like the vintage Ludwigs. I am lucky to have them. They are not going anywhere!
Ludwig Super Classics
Those drums look awesome! I may be in the minority but I don't care for yellow WMP nearly as much as I like white. I know it happens to them as part of the aging process but I just love the look of fresh minty white pearl. Those look very white!
My question is on the floor tom. The badge is in the center of the drum as opposed to the top and I am wondering if it is an older drum. They stopped putting the badge in that posistion around 1965. Does that particular drum have a date stamp? What is the serial number on the badge? Thanks for showing us the pics!
I agree wflkurt. That beautiful white marine pearl has always been my favorite, and this set is as good as I have ever seen. The floor tom badge does not have a serial #, so is it pre-serial? If so, it is the oldest drum in the set. Amazingly well preserved for its age! I do not know the date of the drum. I will check for date stamp.
It's prob pre 1964 if there is no serial number. The thing throwing me off are the mounts for the legs. The look like the ones used from sometime in 1965 on...
Look for a date stamp in red ink...
I did a performance with a Nashville artist last week with the Super Classics Marko. I had just acquired them from a Nashville collector, and I just had to play them in a show! they needed new heads though, and I played them anyway. ~Great advice though Marko~ Hey, if I play the Super Classics in shows, what heads do you guys recommend I put on them? Give me both reso and batter please!!
I have a different recommendation for heads. Try the Aquarian modern vintage II heads. They're amazing! I tried them out on my Leedy Ludwigs and just got some for my C&C's. I use those batter side and the medium modern vintage heads as resos. Roy Burns knocked it out of the park again.
