Thank you Wayne. The Super Classic was my first set in the late 60's. I sold them in the late 70's for a Fibes Chrome set when CF Martin was manufacturing Fibes. The sold Fibes for a North Set which I played for 6 years. Great set! Then I went to Yamaha and never came back....except to go back to my Super Classics. I am glad I did!!Party

Not sure why you'd put them in storage. I'd play them every day, & gig them at nite. Let them out of their cases!.......marko
I did a performance with a Nashville artist last week with the Super Classics Marko. I had just acquired them from a Nashville collector, and I just had to play them in a show! they needed new heads though, and I played them anyway. ~Great advice though Marko~
Hey, if I play the Super Classics in shows, what heads do you guys recommend I put on them? Give me both reso and batter please!!
You can't go wrong with Remo coated Ambassadors all around, top and bottom, except for the snare reso of course. If you want to choke em up a bit, Emperors on top. If you want to choke em a bit more, vintage Emperors on top.
For the bass drum, I have a soft spot for the Evans EMAD batter head [pic] with the removable circular foam damper strip. Other nice options are Remo Pinstripe or even better, Powerstroke 3. These last two will be less thuddy than the Evans IMHO.
Evans heads on the toms and snare would likely be very nice too, but I have not tried them yet, and don't know the various designations/types.
HTH,
Mitch
My fav combo is remo emperor on top and Remo ambassadors on the bottom
I will use your recommendations! The Memphis Drum Shop had all these same suggestions.
You all can't be wrong! Thank you for the info on the Super Classics! So glad I acquired them! I really appreciate this forum to get expert advice! Thanks VDF!
Well. I guess it is unanimous; I will keep the Super Classics stored in their cases. I do have a Yamaha Recording Custom MIJ I can suffer through playing on while the Super Classics are in storage! (File pic from drum center Portsmouth) mine are same ones though.
Dig those birch Yams ( I have a Birch Custom Ab kit ! I am the original owner of a 1967 Ludwig Super Classic Oyster Blue kit and they have been stored in their cases since bringing them back to Japan with me in 1995 where they'd been stored at my Ma's since 1985 when I moved to Japan . I have been seriously thinking about selling the kit so someone else can play/enjoy them but just can't bring myself to do it ...yet .

I understand how you feel about not being able to bring yourself to parting with your set, esp. as the original owner.I also have those same feelings about my Rogers set, as i am the original owner... and like you, mine have been stored in their cases for a very long time( three decades). One gets rather partial to them over many decades of ownership.Even tho` i don`t play mine, just having them here with me is like family.Sorry to stray from the thread topic.

In retrospect , I wish I'd bought the Downbeat set ( 20/14/12 ) and not the Super Classic . Smaller kits with 18 or 20 inch bass drums have suited me better for many years now , which is the main reason I don't play the kit .
But , the drums are like part of the family so to speak , so not easily parted with . I could use the money , but for now they remain here with me in Japan in their cases .

Hang onto them jazzbo and get them out every once in a while and have a good close look. There`s a reason why you don`t want to let them go so just enjoy them...
