I saw those brown strata Sstandards too. The shell depths are short and look odd. Hack job? Maybe I'm wrong, but I laid off inquiring about them. The tandards in general should have athat great classic Ludwig sound at an affordable price.
I saw these Stratas up close and personal. They're at the GC near me. I was very interested but can't spare the bucks.
As far as condition:
They have the normal wear and tear for a kit of this age more or less. Clearly they were played there are some minor scratches and dings but seem to be in round and I didn't see shell separation or anything.
As far as sizes:
This is a really cool kit. It was made this way from Ludwig. They are "nesting" drums. The whole kit fits into the bass and floor tom ad then into two cases. Also something unusual, there are no bottom lugs, all concert toms, and the inside of the shells is wrapped as well with the same brown strata wrap.
As far as Stratas in general:
I have a set and I love them. I use them for jazz gig's, 12,14,20, but I will say that the hardware particularly the tom mounting is nowhere as sturdy as regular ludwig hardware. Even with jazz gigs it tends to slip. Lugs seem fine though. I'll post pics.
My recommendation:
This is a very unique kit, even the sizes, and it has mount for 3 toms off of the bass drum which is cool and unique. I think it's an uncommon piece of history but also a playable kit. I personally would like to see it come down 100 to 150 but if you really like it then it's worth it.

and standards could be had with classic lugs also.my friend has a set of early 3 ply avocado strata standards he got from his church, that were purchased new by the pastor. they have classic lugs
My Ruby Stratas came with classic lugs....
Thanks All!!
Actually, the kit I was looking at is the one for $900, also brown strata but not in short sizes. The sizes are a little unusual however - 12 - 13 - 16 - 20 with matching snare. The guy said a family member brought in about 5 Ludwig kits last week. They all belonged to his father. Now that's my kind of hoarder!
Thanks again.
Dave
oops! guess I screwed up. Did a search on GC vintage and only came across the one kit that I had seen. Well, still seems expensive for a used Standard kit.
next time include a link to the page would help.

Shhhh... This was supposed to be our little secret! lol
I'm one of those guys who has a '68 Ludwig Standard set in Avocado Strata with classic lugs. A pic is in the gallery tab of VDF, pg. 16. Ludwig Standards are definitely overlooked by lots of collectors, but that's OK with me!!
Something that everyone is forgetting to mention is that the standard Tom and floortom lugs are all the small size and the bass drum lugs are the large size.
Actual ludwig "classic" drums only had small lugs on the 12" and had large lugs on the 13" 16" and 22"
Usually only concert toms and marching drums had the small lugs all around.
It is worth noting I have a rocker set which uses the standard lug and have had to replace four casings because of cracking.

Only my 12 has small classic lugs. Soon my 10 will as well. The 13, 14 & 16 floors all have large classic lugs....
