Is this a real Radio King? Last viewed: 4 days ago

Loading...

Found in a used music store and not sure if it is a real RK. 6 lug, 13 inch snare, original throw replaced. original 3 point holes still visible under current throw. Did they make 6 lug, 13 inch RK???

What do you guys think? No badge, and the vent hole is next to the throw. I need to RK experts to tell me what you think. rims and lugs look authentic.....but that's no guarantee..input from the experts requested.

Very cool snare. First 13" RK rims I've seen. Too bad on the on the strainer but the rest looks great.

I wonder what year that is... I see in the 1950 catalog they had a 4x13 snare as part of the "Combo Be-Bop Drum Outfit" no mention of it specifically be labeled RK though. COOL DRUM!

As far as the rims go. I do recall my ex's fathers RK kit having the engraved ( stick chopper ) rims on the toms. What has me a little off on this one is the grommet placement. From what I see of the interior, it doesn't scream cut down to me. I think the snare may be what Jim said, and then someone added the RK rims.

Great catch. Tension rods to far down in the lugs. Single flange with rim clips original??

They didn't have the rim clips, but they were certainly single flange hoops. My 1955 RK has the same rims ( got that from ex's father as well )

Something about this snare though seems slightly off to me. Though it could just be me. But I'd like a good interior shot. Again I'm not thinking it's a cut down as it doesn't have the immediate signs. But I am not 100%.

It's has a radio king engraved hoop most likely from an RK tom drum. A Radio King snare drum would typically have 8 lugs and 1 ply maple shell. That drum has a mahogany inner ply and is most likely a 3 ply shell. So, I will say it's not a Radio King snare.
