That's a great looking and complete kit, but what makes this the holy grail? I always thought a Gretsch 18/12/14 was considered the holy grail.

Is it because it's a 3-ply 20/12/14? Because of the matching 4x14 snare? Is it the wrap color? Or a combination of everything?

I'm not knocking it, I'm just trying to understand the asking price of $5,000.

Combination of everything.....

3 ply 14 by 14's are SOOOO hard to find...

Have had 2 in the last quarter century....and 1...... You could not get ANY heads on...no way,Jose.....

Have only seen 1 drum in person in the CM finish....and that was a Tom at a drum show in Annapolis,Maryland over 20 years ago....

The 3 ply 4 by 14 makes it super rare too....

I have had 4-18 RB Gretsch kits in my life......never a full 3 ply 20,12,14...in a super rare finish...no less....

I still say this a Grail kit.....YMMV.....

BTW...As stated...I have to pay $4,500 for it.....11% profit isn't crazy I don't think...eBay takes,on average,13%.........I have already put quite a bit of time into trying to flip this too.....lots of emails!

Have to pay for a bank wire transfer also....

Thanks for the explanation. I would also agree with the Holy Grail title. Way out of my league, but good luck on the sale.

Can't tell from the pics (too small) and never seen these in person. What kind of wrap is in the BD rims on these - silver sparkle? WMP? I assume these are original and they used the wrap because it was too hard to paint the stripe in the hoops.

Wow. If I was rich, I wouldn't think twice. That's a dream kit.

obviously not a gretsch guy, or familiar with the rarity of 3 ply in those sizes, or the finish...

[Attachment: 59383]Well, I was all set to pull the five grand out of my wallet (my walkin' around money) until I saw the tom was missing the bottom rim. Deal breaker for me.But seriously, this is a beautiful and impressive set which I'm sure will find a good home. Makes me agonize over what my 1946 WMP round badge set (13-16-20 w/matching snare), which I sold for $100 in 1974, would go for now.

Probably a good amount. Sounds like an early bop set. I'm not sure I've seen a 20in mid 40s drum.

Also, is that copper mist a lacquer over wrap, wrap over lacquer, or just a lacquer? It looks in very nice condition. I think they did that kinda stuff, right? I'm surprised this set hasn't sold yet. Is there another 20 12 14 50s set out there? I don't think I've seen one on the market in 10 or so years.
