As previous posters said one tom and kick look to be from a pre-Tama Star set.

The rest of them look like they are from the Pearl Taiwan factory. CB700 or similar stencil kit. From the hole pattern left by the missing tom mount, I'll guess early '80's, a little newer than my own '70's CB700 set.

Not sure how used no-name drum prices are in that area, but here in California I would not give the seller half of that asking price for what is pictured, despite my love for lauan.

Good observations about the two potential Gretsch drums.

If you decide to go look in person, just lift the Gretsch-like tom and compare it to another tom of a similar size; they'll weigh discernably more than an import of comparable size. Hard to tell from the pic, but is that tom equipped with a die cast hoop, too?

Mick - after a second look, I see the Gretsch lugs! The rack tom on the floor has the double tone controls, die-cast hoops and if I'm not mistaken, one of the large drums on the floor is the floor tom to the kit. If there's a 3-piece Round Badge kit tucked away in there, it'll be a huge score.

There may be a 60's Gretsch kit hiding in among those other MIJ tubs. Grab them if they are Gretsch. Look for the silver paint inside. If they are early enough, there won't be any tags.

Good luck! Keep us posted. This could be a great score indeed!

That is what I am saying. The owner possibly put the hoops back on the wrong kicks. That bass drum has a Pratt muffler. I am betting there is a Gold Sparkle Gretsch kit in there. The year could be discerned from those bass drum T-rods. I think you may have really found something.

If i was you i would Buy the set even at 200.00 why? I see two Gretsch drums one is the mounted to with the diamond mount see the two Grestch muffler knobs. The bass drum on the right is a Gretsch also, in one photo you can see the muffler knob on it the T-rods and claws date the bass drum in the 50's this is why maybe no badge is on the mounted tom also...The 2 Gretsch drums should be 3 ply shell's.....Mikey

Good call on the Gretsch hardware; I had to put my readers on and get super-close to the screen, to see it. Didn't Slingerland use that tom mount (on the tom), at one time?

Cool pieces. I love those Gretsch T-claws. Cool buy. But, do you tell the seller the Gretsch stuff is worth more and give him more $$? (I wouldn't)

One of the things that give this away, making it unlikely to be an imitation MIJ, is the dual mufflers on the tom. I don't think any MIJ had a dual muffler (some trivia for us all???)

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!
