The Gretsch paper tages showed up in 62 I believe.....there could be earlier ones out there ....maybe.
I think that's what I was confusing; flipped around the silver sealer and paper tag beginnings. I'll go back to sleep.

I think G stated putting paper tags inside around 1964,when the US Gov started getting on everyone to put serial numbers on stuff.Makes sense,no?
That could be.
Although there are people that have Gretsch drums built in 62 that have the paper tags.

I believe the Gretsch website says 1961. I've also seen proof that they started putting the tags on in late 61 recently where a guy posted a pic of his father or uncle sitting at the Gretsch set he got for Christmas 1961. The drums had labels with 4 digit serial numbers.
Obviously the drums had to have actually been given at Christmas 1961 but no one has any reason to mistate something like this.
OK cool....
you learn something new everyday on here, don't ya?
This is the bass drum from my matched 3 ply, Progressive Jazz set.
As you can see, the interior was painted silver, as were all four 3 ply drums. Ron
Don't throw out the Istanbul Ks, they're worth a lot of $.
Very nice Ron!
Do I detect a little silver paint splatter too on the bearing edge,as I mentioned above?

Right! Anyway, what would be the point of silver-painting an unpainted 3-ply shell after the fact?
I have a 1947 Broadcaster snare... the shell is date stamped inside... with a clear coat interior.
Here's a view of the 12" from the 50s 3 ply set and the '47 snare. Ron
Well, the guy in Japan was pretty positive I (or someone) painted the drum silver inside.....but that was years ago.......
He has prolly talked to someone by now saying, yes, there are 3 plies with silver paint.........
He got a rare 3ply 24" BD set in the deal anyway!
