Just found out the drums all have Dayton tags. Are these less desirable than clevelands? If so why? Difference in sound?

If you get bummed about the BDP, pm me. I'm searching for a nice little jazz kit. I'll make sure you get a bit of profit for it. Obviously, I would offer what they are worth ... If the pics show good. Thanks.

The only real difference between the dayton drums and late clevelands beavertails is the interior shell coating, flat gray versus speckled gray and white, and I have a dayton 14 ft with a grey int, some dayton drums have a gray int.A 20 12 14 config in original condition is collectible, and if it were me I would leave that nice kit alone and look for a player for cheap to re wrap.As for the wrap that is on there,I like bdp,but I picked up a rogers 12 14 20, in WMP which I was not a big fan of,but once I cleaned them up and tuned them up and played them awhile I found I grew to like wmp just fine.

I have both, early cleveland beavertail three ply, and a Cleveland/Dayton transition five ply flat gray. They dont know how to sound bad.

There are always orphans for sale on ebay. Hardware can get expensive. I have 450 dollars worth of Cleveland era swivo hardware on a rebuilt 18-12-14 XP8 kit I put together from neglected orphans. AND I have C-clip Fullerton XP8 era lugs, with fullerton FT mounts on the kit. Good looking Cleveland era hardware is expensive. At first glance, this kit looks Vintage. It looks 60s, and I like it. Maybe someday, a really nice, flawless set of shells will turn up that some dumbass has stripped to sell off the parts. I will be half way there.

As a collector I prefer early Cleveland beavertails drums over Dayton era. There is a difference (to me) in how they play, but most will tell you they don't hear a difference. They are all great drums. (Remember the early beavertail kits had three ply shells which helps account for some of the differences.)Don't sell short BDP until you see it in person. It doesn't photograph well, but looks great in person. You got a good buy on the kit. Enjoy.

The inside tag reading Dayton is the only difference,so how do you hear a difference?

You must have the magic ears if you can hear a difference just by them typing in a different city!

I think there is something special about a 50 year old kit lasting this long with its original wrap. I like looking at a kit and reading its history... but each owner do what he must. :)
