DW or Rogers? Last viewed: 7 hours ago

IMHO: You definitely made the correct choice. As has been noted; those DW's are available in any good drum shop, the Rogers, not so much.

Ya did good...

Yep I am not in any way down playing your kit it is a good one but the square metal backup plate goes inside the drum on the wood it sandwiches the shell between the outside round plate and the inside metal plate giving more support to the mount. Ihave owned Rogers drums and played them for over 40 years and i have never seen that plate under the wrap... here is a picture of a Fullerton drum there is no plate under the wrap to me it is no big deal i would love to own those drums just for the color and size I am more curious as to how that plate got there....

I have looked at a LOT of Rogers drums in the last several years, and played them for close to 40 myself, I am with Mike T on this. Im also of the mind that the dude knew. And that would rather make him a douche bag. Call him on it.

Oh, and I love Rogers. But I hate thieves and liars. And on the top of the liars list are people who knowingly misrepresent a drum that has issues. We have all ran into this kind of guy, he probably wont own up to it, but they seldom do.

Thanks very much. Seems then the plate is not correct however I am sure the seller didn't know about it. He is a good person.

Maybe it was re-wrapped and the guy who did the job didn't know how to re-install it. That makes sense to me.

In any case, I am not a collector and this is a great looking drum which sounds incredible to my ears and I wish I can enjoy it for many many years despite where that plate should be.

Don`t worry much about it-just dig the sound of those babies as they`ll bring the house down.I`ve got a 67` 13" ride tom(original wrap) that has a split in the wrap half way round (only cosmetic), but it`s that famous Rogers sound that counts.Things can always be fixed down the line and these drums are built like tanks...Enjoy-they`re absolute beauties for sure!!! I`m still wiping the drool off my keyboard on that finish-"Green Sparkle" -WOW,WOW,WOW !

Not me, but the original drummer. I have listen to him with the Rogers and the DW and man... the difference was huge. The Rogers is like a train pushing and moving the band. The DW is like more in the mids and compressed.

Both sound very nice but the Rogers is much more the sound I am after. I was never totally convinced with the DW and the Ks.

A few things I've noticed:

There's an extra patch of wrap on top of the main wrap, under the tom mount. A very close color match, suggesting the kit is rewrapped. Also, the wrap on the bass does not look like original wrap, it's very smooth and the color is totally even, which is unusual for 40+ year old material.

I think it's very unlikely that they put the backing plate for the tom mount under the wrap. That wrap is pretty thick: there's no way it could adhere so tightly and confrom so closely to the shape of the plate - the edges of the plate could never be so well defined under the wrap.

The location of the tom mount is incorrect. I think it was moved, and that's why the patch is there: to cover the previous holes. I also think that this was done after a rewrap since the patch matches perfectly. But, it could just be a piece of well-matched wrap put there to cover the extra holes in an original finish. Without seeing these in person, it's impossible to know.

Still, a nice trade.....
