From Dan Boucher

Too cool Kona. Looks like you may have hit a bop jackpot. Curious that you indicated no FT legs even though they are shown in the picture.

Great looking kit, i believe you have scored big on that kit. I dig quite a few up myself and would have loved your gretsch project.. Stunner.....sean

That looks to be a terrific score. Please keep us informed with before clean up and after clean up pictures. That vintge red sparkle should be beautiful once they are spiffed up. Did Gretsch wrap their drums with glass glitter back then?

Nice. I have always wanted a red sparkle set myself. Have 3 plain red sets. Why couldn't one of them been sparkle. Plain red must have been popular in the early 70's. I was also wondering why it said no floor Tom legs when they are present on the floor Tom. Lets us know when you get them it they are there.

Haha - yes I thought that too about the legs. The seller is not a player and I'm pretty sure that "W/O legs" just means she measured the drum without the leg height.

leedybdp: I have a Gretsch 1940's tom that has what appears to be a Glitter....which I was told was called Sparkle back then. I'm hoping the drums are a nice 50's Sparkle - hexagon pieces like my late 50's Gold Sparkle - that would be the best I could hope for.

Congrats on the score! I almost bought that kit myself but I have a few irons in the fire too many at the moment.

Pretty sure you have some old K Zildjians there. That sticker under the bell was used on Ks and also in the original listing they listed country of origin as "Turkey". Where would they come up with that unless they saw it on something amongst the various stuff.

Looks like an awesome score.

It's taking a while for the seller to ship everything - she is inexperienced with eBay and packing and shipping - especially drums. I let her know there is no hurry - in fact I told her I'd rather receive the drums well packed and a little later than packed quickly and not securely. I offered some tips which she was very happy to hear. She has packed them in 5 boxes so it is a little expensive for me.

The thing is the listing said $14 shipped - that was way out of line and I discussed that with her before the end of the auction. I said I would pay whatever the 'real' price is and be happy with that. But, yesterday she took the boxed up 14x20 bass drum to UPS and they said it would be $300. She said 'no' and left the store - which I later thanked her for. You can ship a 25x25x27 box at UPS and USPS from New York to Washington State (where I am having them mailed) for under $145. She is going to repack the box - we will see how that goes. I'm very excited about these drums. Some parts may be missing - I'm okay with that .......the rail mount 'sausage' is not there - I asked her about it and she said what you see is what you get. Perfect ! She apologized for them being 'dirty - not clean' I said - that's the way I like to receive vintage drums!

I think that old eagle eye Blair has, indeed, spotted that piece of the rail consolette. I just took another look, and think that it's in middle of the hardware pile.
