Diamond in the rough? Last viewed: 6 seconds ago

I picked these up on eBay a week or so ago. They're in the mail - I'm looking forward to seeing exactly what I have here.

Don't know if they're 3 or 6 ply - I'm thinking 3. They haven't been played in decades from what I've been told.

Red Sparkle Gretsch

Here's the seller's info in the auction:

Red sparkle drum set from the 50's. In family for years. Original skins. Complete with cow bell, block, pedals, trap case and SOME original soft cases. In good shape for age.

SIGNED 15" Zildjian cymbal

SNARE - 14"X 6"

TOM-TOM - 13" X 9"

FLOOR TOM - 16" X 17" w/o legs

BASS - 20" X 16"

HIGH-HAT - 14"

I don't need another drum kit but I've always wanted one in Red Sparkle. I'm hoping the finish is in good shape.

I would be excited if those were headed my way! With the Gladstone Leg Brackets on the floor tom I am thinking 3 ply as well. I am also guessing with those canvas bags and all the accessories present that those puppies are going to be super clean! Hope they are the diamond in the rough your hoping for. My favorite sounding kit is my Gretsch WMP 3 ply in the same sizes!

Wow fantastic!

Those are my favorite finds, but I'm always worried what small parts gets left behind. So much more fun to dig through that stuff yourself.

You may have some gems in cymbals as well. I can see the heavy hand hammering on them in the pic. Also, they mention that the one is a signed Zildjian 15. That would make it a First Stamp Avedis or an Istanbul K most likely. Exciting!

The seller shipped 4 packages out today and the bass drum goes tomorrow. I'm hoping the packing job was good and they arrive undamaged -it was the seller's first time ever to ship stuff like this. It sounds like the drums were each packed separately and all the other items in another package. The shipping on the eBay site was listed low and I said I will pay whatever it costs to ship these and to take extra time to pack and I don't mind waiting a few extra days and have them arrive undamaged.

The bass and floor tom.

That is the lighting in the photo of the bass drum where it looks like major 'rash'. If you look at the rail mount piece in the second photo it's not there.............whew! When I saw that I was so relieved when I saw the second photo and the rash was not there.

Wow...looks like a great score, Gary! My '53 Leedy & Ludwig was a find like this...and it was worth every penny and then a whole lot more! I love original kits like this. Congrats!

Too cool Kona. Looks like you may have hit a bop jackpot. Curious that you indicated no FT legs even though they are shown in the picture.
