Alright - I've got a general whine... Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Yep, it's me with a whine.

And, there is a perfect example going on at the moment in the non - USA forum. The whine is about posting pictures. The original thread started out about a Tama kit. Fine n dandy, he posted pictures, got his educated answers and then...

The photos disappeared since they had been posted on photo bucket or some such photo site. This makes any further discussion or someones research much less informative. There's a fellow that re-kindled the thread looking for information on a similar kit... poof! No pictures to compare with his.

I really don't have a problem with these external photo sites, just why use them when you can post here, and have your information available in the future. We must remember there are gobs of folks that hit this site (Thanks again Dave) purely for research.

Okay, whine switch off, but remember the next time you see that rare kit on eBay or C/L, post those pictures here. The link goes away and all you have is the verbiage about the kit.

I'm a mod on another forum which has quite a few diy posts and as you can imagine the pics are quite important to these threads. We had the same problem with some of these posts. My solution was to start a photobucket account owned by and dedicated to the forum itself. As a new diy thread is posted I save the pics move them to the photobucket account and change the links. This way the pics are always available. All other mods on the forum have access to the site as well so when I'm no longer a mod someone else can take over the duty. The initial setup and work involved with moving a bunch of pics and changing links was a bit of a job but I feel it was worth the effort.

What is the simple way to post pictures? As a new poster when I tried to use the "Insert Image" function it wasn't working so I loaded the pics on my me.com account. Those pics may disappear in a couple of months as Apple finishes their transition to cloud services.

Yes, sometimes pics do have to be reduced. Hopefully, this link will help:

I use photobucket because it allows me to use a high res photo. I usually never use forums picture software because by the time you lower it to the "proper" file size you lose lots of definition. If there was just a way to use big files then I would use it. I have a website of my own and I have unlimited traffic and data storage so that cannot possibly be a problem here. Until there is support for large files I will use photobucket. I leave mine all on there though. I never delete them.

Sometimes I just don't feel like reducing as you need to do it a couple of times to get it as close to the pixel rate as possible. The FORUM Photobooth idea is GREAT !!!! Jumping2
