`65 Slingerland Kit restoration Last viewed: 1 minute ago

Just a follow-up on my restoration. A few updates. First sorry about the missing Photobucket links. I'll try to get those repaired.

I had an old orphan Radio King snare shell that I re-wrapped with Delmar red glass glitter wrap that matches almost perfectly. Maybe a tad lighter. Also I finally got the bass drum hoop inlay done with the same Delmar wrap. Both from Precision drum. I also used the Gibraltar 3 point throw-off because original 3 points are so dear. No, the bottom hole doesn't line-up with the Slingerland 3 point holes so I only used the 2 top mounting holes and left the bottom mount float. It's quite stout and no extra holes in the shell. I found the strainer works great after a little lubrication. For 20 bucks you can't go wrong.

I must say that working with glass glitter is a lot more difficult than modern pearl wrap. Really enjoying the kit with the new snare.

Nice looking snare!

I have a Leedy by slingerland in those sizes and I actually prefer it.

The separation between the 12" and 16" make the kit a little more versatile.

I like Drums...
1963 Ludwig Downbeat Champagne Sparkle
1964 Leedy (Slingerland) Blue n Silver Duco
1964 Ludwig Club Date Sparkling Silver Pearl
1966 Ludwig Super Classic Sparkling Silver Pearl
1968 Gretsch round badge modern jazz orange stain
1972 Slingerland 85N Pop outfit Light Blue Pearl
1976 Ludwig Vistalite clear
1981 Gretsch SSB Gran Prix Rosewood
1987 Yamaha Turbo Tour Custom Mellow Yellow
1991 Pearl Export Ferrari Red

That looks great.

Coincidentally, I also just picked up a red sparkle set of Slingerlands.

22, 13, 16

They could use the same treatment that you have given yours.

Very nice drums and I love the snare. The edges on the snare look slightly sharper than I'm used to seeing?

I love the jazz era
