'58 Ludwig Trans Badge Kit! Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Hola Amigos,

So...last year I picked up a '58 Ludwig Trans Badge kit for $100, but she was in sad shape. She was molested pretty good, but I brought her back to life! Since a re-wrap was in order, I picked up a '64 Pioneer snare and had that wrapped to match. Here's a link to some "before" pics.

That set had one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel. What a great project!

This set is a prime example of when a rewrap is in order! Just like an old Chevy with a new paint job, nice!!!!

Thanks, Y'all. Yeah...a rewrap was definitely in order...just glad I was able to pick it up for so cheap...the seller didn't know what she had.

Lucky...I was thinking the same thing about comparing this to an old car with a new paint job...ha!

I took her out for a spin last night, and she performed great, but I'm just not sure I like the Aquarian heads...might have to go for some Ambassador batters...time to experiment.

I have the same kit only a 67, clear ambs on the reso and coated ambs on the batters, sound great!! I am a sucker for blue sparkle Ludwigs! You said it is a sparkle and not a glass, is that what was used originally? I have a 24" bass that I want to do to match.

I was about to ask how you like the American Vintage heads. Hmmmm They sound good on my Slingerland kit. My new '67 Ludwig's have Evans reso heads and clear Emperors in them. I was thinking of putting American Vintage heads on when it's time to change...the Evans and Remo's are tight and I've been an Aquarian guy for a long time. I wonder if they just don't play well with Ludwig shells.

Your kit is super cool! I really like blue sparkle, which mine are.

I'm no guru, just a vintage drum junkie!

Yeah...I've always been a Remo guy...probably gonna switch out the batters. Yup...it's a sparkle...and that was what they originally had. Not sure if Ludwig ever used glass.

Thanks! The AV heads fit just fine (so do the Remo clear ambassadors I have on the resos), but they just don't have enough resonance for me. I've tried other Aquarian heads and they are really good...just not for me. I guess for me, the look/color was what I wanted them for...but probably going with coated Ambassadors or even the Vintage Ambassadors. I have those on my 2006 Ludwig classic maple kit and they sound fantastic!

I am not a fan of the Evans clear reso heads, they make the toms sound too tinny for me
