1969 Oaklawn Camco 4 piece set for sale. Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Hi

This is my first post and I'm selling a 1969 Oaklawn Walnut Stain 4 piece set. 8X12, 9X14, 16x16 and 16 x 24 bass drum. I ordered this from the Pro Drum Shop in Hollywood from Bob Yeager that year.

This is the Jim Keltner-Jim Gordon "Mad Dogs & Englishmen Tour" configuration. I was told at the time that those drums were ordered from this shop. Can't verify that, but it certainly excited me. Everything on these drums is original except where noted.

Both bass drum heads are original, bottom floor tom head is original and all the rest of the heads are coated Ambassadors top and bottom.

Rather than order the double tom tom mount from Camco, I had Yeagers shop techs order and install a classic Rogers Swiv-o-Matic set on the BD and Toms. At the time I wanted the adjustability of that piece of hardware.

The Swivomatic has one replacement set screw, 2 tom hoops are not original, 8+ tension rods also after market. Shell bearing edges are beautiful. and reringed.

I have a series of pictures you can view by going to http://drumdrome.yolasite.com/ and clicking on the Camco 4 piece drumset banner at the top of the website,

At the end of the photo series I have tried to show closeups of the condition of the wood. You'll note scratches, clear coat gone, some scuffing and some loss of some surface and some divoting of the shell/s. More on the rack toms than anywhere. The BD has a ring of raised grain in the clear coat on the outside of the shell. These are/were players drums and even though always case, they sustained some scuffing up. Some pedal and claw rash on the wooden hoops of the BD.

That said, they play great. Monster sound. The Bass Drum kills. What you'd expect from Camco gear of this Vintage and shells of this quality.

I'll entertain reasonable offers on these guys. For more details, questions or if you want to make an offer, please contact me through the VD forum by private email or through eBay at up-n-square .

Thanks a lot. Hope to hear from you. CHS3

Hi Kevin

Thanks for the heads up on the site.

Upfront I'm a" no-tech" guy. I used http://drumdrome.yolasite.com/

as the site to show pictures because I don't know how to add these photos to this site.

Secondly, could you perhaps try that site again?? I can't imagine [literally] why the site can't be accessed. I just did it.

Nice looking set. How much are you asking?

Too bad that someone had to put Rogers tom mounts on it..

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

That would be me backbeat-

I plead youth--and a general lack of foresight and understanding that there would, one day, in fact, be a future. And that both me and these drums would be in it together. CHS3

As I said, I'm asking people to make an offer they consider reasonable.

This is my reasoning. It's not that I'm playing footsie. In the past 6 months I've occasionally seen folks asking [and not getting] ridiculous money [$5000] for stuff that is in middling condition at best. Some of the best stuff I've seen--and I don't claim to have seen everything--is in the $2600-$3000 range. some decent stuff has gone in the $1900-$2400 range. In good faith, all I'm trying to do is establish a fair price on these. Thats why I posted here. VDF is a community of really knowledgable & straight up players and collectors. Anyway I hope this is not an offensive way to sell something.

Very nice lay out of photos.

The buyer will know exactly what they are getting!

No need to apologize for the Rogers hardware. I have rogers hardware on my Oaklawn kit and -it works!- Bottom-line, the Rogers hardware improves the kit in terms of reliability. Rogers hardware is rock-solid and in my humble opinion improves the quality of the kit immensely.

Gorgeous set of drums you have there. Wish I had the coin... I wouldn't mind owning more Oaklawn Camco's at all.

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Thank you. That's my intention. No surprises. I try to imagine what I would want to see if I was considering buying an instrument on line for a serious dollar, All the best to you.
