I was in a national chain this weekend and came across a beautiful super sensitive supraphonic that was marked 1967 ludwig supraphonic. Since I own one of these already, I know a little about the drum. The one in the store was a super sensitive one and was in remarkable, pristine condition. With a serial number of 366713, I knew it had to be earliar than 1967 since the one I have at home is dated nov 3 1967 and has a serial number of 552367. I looked into the shell of the store drum and no typo, it had a date stamp of Jul 32 1960-thinking I had something special in my hands, a 1960 super sensitive, I bought it-anyone have an estimate of the value??

Sounds like 1966 to me with a 366xxx serial.
But, also sounds like it has been rebadged incorrectly since there is a date stamp inside of 1960.
There were no serial numbers used until early 1964.
if its a genuine 60, it will be a brass shell instead of ludalloy.

I am going to see a collector in the area tomorrow to help me validate the shell-will post an update tomorrow - I don't get the disconnect between badge and date stamp

You stated the badge has a serial number of 366713, but a date stamp of Jul 32 1960.
Something's wrong, keystone badges had no serial numbers on them until 1964.
And, there aren't that many days in July or any other month.
So, something is wrong..........
Post some pics, if you would.
It will help us help you.
Thanks
I just tried uploading files from my iphone but couldnt get it to work. I agree that the badging and the date stamp dont correlate, but I dont know what to make of it. The date is definitely jul 32 1960 and appears faded on the shell. One person who is somewhat knowledgeable on the process said that some of the shells from the 1960's did sit around for a while in inventory and then when super sensitive was ordered the line took some of those shells to make the order go....if anyone knows the trick to get iphone pics uploaded let me know
I am very curious about this drum as my 1967 supraphonic that came with my psychedelic red kit has a date stamp of nov 3 1967 and badge 552367
attached are a couple of pics I took tonight-I had a neighborhood couple come over tonight and confirm the date inside of Jul 32 1960 - it is very faded inside but you can make it out-unfortunately I couldnt get a good picture of it
the picture doesnt do it justice-I have a 1967 supra that I thought was in great shape but this one has absolutely no signs of pitting whatsoever and is pristine
it appears to have a baseball bat muffler. they were not using those in 60. a 60 would have had a 3/4" round knob muffler.
great looking drum. probably just stamped wrong at the factory. ive seen a few of those.

to add to what mike just stated if it was a 1960 model supra it would have a crimped snare bed, like the one I'm showing you.
