Super repair! I need a bit of a tutorial here - you mention tone control, which I haven't understood from the beginning :) Are the screw heads sticking up from the bearing edge part of the tone control? How does that work? Thanks,Mitch

The screw heads are what the brass ring rests on. Followed by a big round aluminum (sometimes brass) "hubcap"-like device. Then the head goes on over that, followed by the top hoop. It's known as a "Tone Flange". It was basically banjo technology that was first used on drums in 1928. It was optional all the way up until about 1937. The theory was, it was supposed to eliminate unwanted overtones.

Never been a fan of pink/pinkish drums, but that is a fine looking job you have done. Thanks for sharing!

I wonder how alike the shape of the 'bearing edge' on ( on the tone flange of course) is to a normal drums edge, it lookes like the normal old rounder type edges. I bet it has nice tone but sounds a lot more focused, and I wonder how that affects volume and how it projects. I love it, very beautifull work of art, rare drum.

John, check 4 posts above yours - I just asked and was answered that question. :)

Holy wow on the tone control - never seen that before. I used to own and play a banjo, took it apart a couple times but don't remember that technology. It was a modern Ibanez though, so...

The top edge is rather flat compared to the bottom or that of a standard edge.

Yes I've looked it up on your slingerland website, so the actual (wooden) drum edge is flat the tone flange fits on top of that. I was just looking at the actual edge on the tone flange where the drum skin comes into contact with this and just trying to see how similar it is to a normal drum of this era, although a bit later - like a radio king edge 30 round over like they say. Sorry if I'm ' drooling on' but I love these geeky details. Wonderfull drum.
