I've got several questions that I'm hoping you "Slingy Experts" can help me with, so here goes:
1. I recently picked up an 18" Slingerland Floor Tom. The drum's got a serial number of 188XXX. Based on my research, I believe that would date the drum somewhere around 1970-1972. Am I correct?
2. Was it common practice for the Slingerland Drum Company to use two pieces of wrap on its 18" floor toms?
3. I've also been looking at a vintage Slingy kit that's got some extra holes drilled into the bass drum (see pic). The current owner stated that the holes were drilled for a muffler that normally would clamp to the hoop on the outside of the drum. Since these external muffler assemblies were normally "clamped" on, as he stated, I've got no clue why anyone would drill holes into the shell. Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.
THANKS in advance for your time and your help!
