i think that phoenix kit may be the one from ebay awhile back. todd's kit did not have that other badge (i can't see what it is) nor did it have a rail mount.
i'm not saying this was todd's kit of course.but i assume if todd's kit didn't have that other badge, odds are the others didn't either.looking at pics of bun's drum barn, there's a pic of his th&c kit set up.as far as i can tell it also doesn't have the other badge or a rail mount.
i don't anyone would drill into a kit like this.but that's just me.
Well...at the time Joe offered me a "special deal" on it, so I'm not sure what the actual retail of it was. Let me say that the price that it was offered to me was a bit less than half the current asking price of the one on ebay.
BTW, I passed on it for the engraved Black Beauty because I already had a limted edition African Satinwood snare (I didn't want two snares that looked different but sounded the same, I saw no point in that), and really wanted a black beauty at the time. Also, I always thought the tophat & cane wrap was a bit...well....fugly. Too busy, you know? A lot like Leedy's "Autographs of the Stars" wrap from the same time frame (of the original wrap that the new stuff replicates). No disrespect to Ludwig or Jack Lawton, but.....it was just plain fugly.
There was a reason that the original is rare and didn't sell well (much like the mod colors and the psychadelic colors of the 60's) its just plain fugly. (I know, I know....some of you will say the same about Black Panther.....but at least from the audience that looks like the basic black that it is)

Yea, I hear ya.... on the kit the print just feels way too busy, almost like newsprint to my eye.
I was curious about the price as I'm a data junkie and it gives me an idea of the market trends, which I think is useful to document here for posterity sake.
Really? I saw one about 2months ago on E-bay that was a complete 5 piece set with the badging and everything. I don't know if he sold it or the auction just ended without a sale. I wonder what that was? Hmmmmm.........
The one you saw on ebay was made for the owner of one of the drum shops in the S.F. Bay area. I contacted him about having a 24,13,16,18" set made for me and he told me that if enough people would get enough money together they /he could/would order another run of the wrap," Through Jack Lawton." I think there might have been more of these sets made than just 3... You can see another one complete with all the ludwig badges at the Vistalites web site "The Wedding Drummer" who also has a small collection of vista lite sets. If you are really serious send me a PM, I'll certainly go in on the wrap with you but was quoted a minimum order was $5,000. And from what I understand he will build the sets with your choice of shells. (.013" 5ply Keller w/ 6ply RRs ?" The shells Keller will not sell to the general public)
There could certainly have been more than three made, but I'm sure they weren't made to celebrate the 90th anniversary. Jack Lawton didn't make the drums for Ludwig, all he did was make the replica wrap (which he may still do to this day). Ludwig ordered it for the snare drums, and I'm sure Todd Trent thought it was cool, as did Bun E., so they just ordered up some wrap from Jack and had Ludwig apply it to a couple of kits. You can do that as well today....when you custom order a kit from Ludwig, they will build it however you want it. There is a checkbox on the orderform for "customer supplied" wrap.
i was offered the kit back in 1/29/2010 for $2,500.00 and I wanted it really bad! I was in a divorce battle and finances were bad. Starcraftdrumz told mr he found it in a pawn shop or music store in Calif. He wanted my Bonham sets in a pssible trade but I couldn't do that. Here's what he emailed me... Dear drumaddic,
yes..it sold...I had several guys low balling me on it....I offered it to

I wish I'd Had been more focused and I would have had them here today still. David Bosier.
i do have a pic of bun's th&c kit, but he said i'm not allowed to upload private pics.
but i do have this if anyone cares. pic sucks but i happen to have it handy.
its a 2001 lawton price list and (from what i remember) a sample of the wrap my old boss todd got before the limited edition snares went into production.
by the way, i believe i seen kerry krutchfield selling a th&c 90th ann. snare on ebay in the last week or so.
Don Bennett drums in Seattle WA had an original kit for sale a month or so ago.
