Bunch of Slingerland shells Last viewed: 3 seconds ago

Sirs, madams (if any): pics... (I'll put them in several posts, since I may only post 5 at a time)

Looks like a hell of a lot of work (not that I mind). The white shells are from the 60's, the others from the 70's. (There's a few different kinds of hoops too, I think :P)

The previous owner painted the shells blue!

Now, I don't care that they're not from one set.

The thing I'm not sure of is this: the shells that show some wood, have nice looking wood imo, so I'm thinking I could try to stain them, but first of all, is it possible to get them clean enough? I see some black spots, not sure what that is.

And second, I think it's quite possible that not all shells have the same wood color underneath. Which would ruin the idea of staining.

I could still wrap, of course, but I think staining would be very cool too.

Another question I have (me = n00b, sorry), do you think it's possible to get rid of the rust and nastyness on the chrome? Sure, I don't expect it to look brand new, but I wouldn't want rust, at least.

And the Premier guy kind of surprised me by saying he measured a depth of about 18 inches in between the outer edges of the bass. Not sure whether he means the bearing edges or the edges of the hoops, but I don't really care. Never expected a man with such a set to not know the sizes of it

Ok lets start with the premier kit so are you stating the seller said the bass drum is an 18" deep? now with the slingerlands, all the shells look mahogany exterior, the blue painted shell I don't eeven knoe if it's slingerland, the bearing edges are not slingerland, unless they have been recut, and they look like they are at 45 degrees. Yes you can clean the rust off, but with you not in this country I don't know what to recommend to you what auto parts store do you have or drumshops??

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

Haha, yes we do. I've heard about that before, never took it very serious, but now that I look around on the web a bit more, it actually seems quite promising.

But I'm glad I get so much good info here. You're all great :D. Didn't even notice the bearing edges on the blue shells were different from the white shells (twas late yesterday when I got home and saw the pics). I'll just ask the guy what he knows about that, he seems like a nice guy. Wouldn't surprise me if they were re-cut, seeing as how the previous owner painted everything blue as well, including the edges. He probably didn't care much about leaving the shells intact.

LOL, this guy's been so helpful with answering all my questions and sending pics and whatnot, I almost feel guilty when thinking of not buying this from him :P

BTW, I'm welcome to give the Premier a try, but it's almost a 3 hour drive to get there. Damn.

But with those changed bearing edges in the Slingerlands... I think the Premier has just become my favorite again.

the blue painted shell is that the bass drum shell? 45 degree bearing edges on old drums especially the bass drum and floor toms it ruins them! to my taste it does! I hope you get the premiers. and I think the bass drum is a 22" not a 20" it has ten lugs on the front a 20" would have eight lugs on the front
