So I started removing some lugs from a vintage Ludwig kit I purchased recently to start a little cleaning and polishing effort. To my surprise I found some sort of aluminun foil sleeves underneath them. I've never seen anything like this on any of the lugs on my other vintage Ludwig kits.

Any idea what this is about?

THANKS in advance for your time and your help.

I think you're supposed to take it off for the last 15 minutes, to brown the cheese. No, wait, that's lasagna. That's very.....interesting? Sound isolation? Is that factory or home-spun?

^Funny, I was on the same wave length. I thought those lugs were ready to pop some popcorn.

Maybe someone put it on to try and reduce the rattling springs from inside the lugs? I wrapped my springs with felt and it worked just fine. Same idea, perhaps?

They hide their pot underneath the foil when they went overseas?

You guys are killin' me!Funny Post

I actually found the aluminum foil under all the lugs on both the rack and the floor toms. I'm still clueless (nothing new there!) as to its intended function.

When I removed the spur mounts from the bass drum the item in the attached pics fell out (one per mount). I haven't seen these before either.

Any ideas as to what they are and/or what they do?Help2
