It's because we don't know you. When there's a lack of info (data) you have to plug in generalities. Most people would take the kit bought cheap and turn it for a serious profit. Let the celebration begin. That would be the 'norm'. That's why I believe it was posted. No personal disparaging remarks here. Just playing the odds, I would imagine. It's cool that you would prove exception to the rule. Good for you.

I second that. It seems like the kit is in good hands.

that had to have been a very thrilling find!

i'm very happy you found it and share the excitement with you about this kit!

Thanks man! I don't have a huge collection so most of my gear gets 100% lovin and gets played. I try not to hoard too much. I'm not so sure about Backbeatkeepers comment above... almost as if i don't have respect for drums... even after the story of the drums. Word.

My reply is given with your history of "good deals". I never said you don't have a respect for drums, but when you buy items and then put them on eBay for 2 to 3 times for what you paid, I think the comment is justified.

I don't mind a good drum story, we all have 'em, as well as good deals. Given the history that I've seen of your good deals and what happens to them, I spoke my peace.

If you don't sell them, then you are the lucky one. They truly are great drums.

I'm confused..."Given the history that I've seen of your good deals and what happens to them, I spoke my peace."

So, I'm guessing when you buy a Drum Kit for 100 bucks and decide to sell it again you put it back out in the world for 100 knowing that you could easily make more...wish there were more people like you in the world :2Cents: Coffee Break2

I have nothing against a profit, and for the record the last drumset I got I gave it away for free. Granted it wasn't a RB, but it was easily worth a couple of hundred bucks.

I'm not against capitalism, its a beautiful thing. I hope that kit is given the proper care and attention it deserves.

Yes, I agree that profit IS a good thing.

I must say that I have found some great deals, too. Most of them were from people who just wanted to get rid of the "clutter" in their house and are more-than-happy to have someone come in and cart it off for next to nothing. Many times, the profit, in their eyes, is that they don't have to pack the stuff up again and haul it to the Good Will store....or to the dump! They don't care about Ludwig, Rogers or Gretsch. They don't want to bother with researching the value of every object they put up for their yard sales, etc. They just want stuff to be GONE!

Sometimes, I see a drum -like a nice Tama snare drum in the case in almost like new condition. "How much do you want for the drum?" "Oh, I don't know....is $20.00 too much?" "Well, I was thinking more like $10.00." "Welll......OKAY, DEAL!"

See, I don't want a Tama snare drum, so I put it up for auction. I'm going to ask $150.00 for it.

If it doesn't sell at that price, then I'll drop the price to $125.00....and so on, until it sells.

At the end of that road, someone is going to get a good deal on the drum and I am going to have a decent profit in my pocket for when the time comes that I'm at an estate sale and see that Gretsch bop kit or see that Jazzette kit or that Black Beauty snare drum.

At the same time, when the neighbor kid was getting started on the drums, I gave him an old pedal I had. It was nothing to me, but as far as HE was concerned, it was the greatest thing that ever happened (that week). So, I'm not just a greedy profiteer. I know there is a time and a place for doing business and a time for being cool.

Well lets get a couple of facts straight.. i dont low ball guys.. I will give them what they are asking for gear.. and possibly turn it around if it doesn't fit a sound for what its worth.. WHY? because i DONT hoard gear. Someone is going to love it and play it. Why let is sit around? Are you possibly referring to the 22" isty K that i listed shortly after purchasing.. that was to fund THIS gretsch.. well it didn't sell - and i had to take out a small loan on these drums.. AGAIN WHY!?

I'm a 4th year Architecture college student (21years old) with CLOSE to NO income.. I gig on the weekends for spending money as i pay my own way through college.. So i want to congratulate you on casting judgement and turning this forum away from the great drums and into a conversation that no one wants to read.. If i could, i would delete this thread and keep the drums to me and the guys on DFO.. I can't stand threads like this.. thanks man.

I want to talk about the drums. I thought the discussion had just taken a momentary tangent about reselling vintage drums, is all! It happens in discussions sometimes! heh heh

So...How do they sound/feel? Do you agree that there is just something inherently cooler about real vintage drums like that?

I merely commented, to which you replied why? To which I gave a reason, to which you became offended. I never mentioned anything other than what I was able to see by my own eyes, so if you feel sighted in anyway I formally apologize for speaking my own mind.

This will be my final post for now on this post and this forum, I will contemplate as to whether or not I will be posting again or not. Open discussion is just that. I believe a person should put personal feelings aside when commenting or reading a post. I also believe that a person should look at any type of comment as merely what it is, an opinion.

Possibly i took your first couple of comments to heart in the wrong sense. I hope you understand that i was standing beside myself totally THRILLED that i was fortunate enough to come across a kit like this and i wanted to share it with you guys knowing how supportive you all are... so i was really shocked when i read that first comment. Its hard for me in this situation to put aside person feelings.. because i DO have all those feelings for these drums.. i mean come on - these are our babies!! anyways, no hard feelings man. I would hope and doubt that your intention was to slam me. All is cool!

Yeah man - these drums definitely have a vibe to them that can't be described. This is my very First set of vintage gretsch drums.. and i'm in love. Unfortunately.. i've only been able to set up the bass drum and snare.. I don't have any spurs, so the tom causes the bass to roll.. and i need 1 floor tom leg. So the snare sounds very dry.. probably due to the bearing edge as well as the really old worn heads. Bass drum has a great boom.. but i need to through some new heads and a tuning to get the full shell to come through. The die cast definitely have there own unique feel. Excited
