I am no Ludwig expert, but a few things seem off here. The bass drum pedals that are shown look like speed kings, but the footboard is wrong, and the springs should be inside of the posts, not outside. It looks as though someone has taken the footboard from the Ludwig Hercules or Atlas hihat stands and added them to the frame of some other bass drum pedal. I also don't think speed kings had blue posts? Does anyone know if that wrap is an original ludwig wrap? I cant find it in the Rob Cook Ludwig book (is it an Astro or Strata finish maybe?). The wrap also appears to have shrunk somewhat because it looks as though there is an inch or so of wood between the bottom of the wrap and bottom of tom shells....hmmm? The lugs look Ludwig to me. Not sure of the year, but would guess mid 60's based on the flat base stands and such. Can you ask for a picture of the badge? That would help narrow the year down greatly.

I am not so sure these are Ludwig drums. Those shells look like MIJ. The wrap is for certain a Star looking color. The lugs could be, but then again, the Japanese were very prolific and copied many American style lugs. They did copy Ludwigs, and they are very good copies, but they were not many of them that made it out because Ludwig sued for infringement and stopped them. I would very much like to see the interiors of the sheels, the lugs, and any badges. I would be very cautious until these have been positively ID as they do not, from this angle, look like the real deal.

The bass drum for sure is MIJ. The tom mount, the cymbal mount, they are indeed not Ludwig parts. Get close ups of all the parts. That post mount is NOT Ludwig. This bass drum is indeed a stencil.

The pedals are old Star Pro-Pedal models. This kit has all the marks of a fraud. What country are you in?

The set is Not Ludwig at all..lugs are copys of the Ludwig lugs if you can remove a lug from a drum the lugs will be flat and lay on shell..Ludwig lugs have a post thats sticks out that the screw does into...The set posted is a "HOLLYWOOD U.S.A" or "Congueror" both of these drums used the copy lugs like Ludwig, made in japan in the very late 60s..Both of these names also used to make shells from cardboard think like Remo, and steel shells i have had both of these types of shells in the pass...and wood...Cool little set but i would not pay more than 150.00-175.00 for the set..Mikey

Thanks a lot for your help, I had no idea that the Japanese made copies in the 60's. You helped me again I admire your knowledge.

Not sure where they were made, but the lugs are the only thing about the drums (and the footboard) that looks like Ludwig. Ludwig never used that wrap, and the shells look wrong, as does the tom post mount on the bass drum, and the bass t's and claws, etc.

there is no bottom heads, thats why you see wood.

the rims are screwed tight to the lugs. DOH

The lugs are copies. Star made them for a very short period and Ludwig sued them immediately upon notice they had done it. You will likely not see but a few and this is a complete kit full of them.

A whole set of the infamous "bootleg"Ludwigs.I'd buy those for $150-just to have em!Pretty sure I saw that exact set being played by the drummer of the cruise ship band in the famous Japanese monster flick-Godzilla vs Mothra vs Ludwi-gammera.
