Gretsch snare just won on ebay what is it? Last viewed: 4 minutes ago
Sure looks old, don't it? Maybe civil War guy can shed some light..Guy?
My first guess would be a 60's single tension concert bass drum. I say that because the tension rods look like the 60's opposed to the "faucet" type used in the 50's. Is it 6ply? Look closely at the bearing edges.
It's a marching snare, or at least it was before the snare mechanism went missing. Note the eye for attaching a strap harness on the top hoop and the snare notch cut into the bottom hoop. Not to mention 10" x 14" would be an awfully small concert bass! ;)
It looks like a pretty close relative of the 1953 drum in the attached pic.

Haha....got me on that one.....I didn't notice the size in the original post:)
Ya...I see the strap clip there. My mind just jumped to BD right away i don't know why.
you could clean that up and it would make a nice side tom........that's what I use mine for........very carefully of course.
Here's my it is 1949 Gretsch Parade snare drum. Note the deep set hoop claws.
Also.....I will add this. It just kills me that Gretsch put the badge right there.. right under the tension knob. The tension knob tends to rub against the badge - it also obscured the badge from view...I was almost tempted to move the badge where it would be unobstructed.
SkyDog.I see you have a different tensioning knob on that drum of yours. Maybe mine is not original? I'll check it out.
It's not mine -- just a picture I found on the web.
My old marching snare is a 1953-54 Slingerland Standard King that I snagged from eBay kinda like Mikey did with this Gretsch. (I couldn't pass it up at $49!) It's currently in parts, slowly being restored, so I've attached a "before" pic.
Thanks SkyDog75 for the photo of your drum also thanks to Kona too...Iam not sure what knob is right in the two photos..Not sure of the ply of the shell i just won the drum for 34.00+ 18.00 shipping..i think that was a good deal this is one gretsch snare i don't have now i do....Mikey
