Hello & Frankenstein Snare ? Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Hey Guys and Gals:

I've been lurking this forum for a while now and decided it was time to say "Hello". I've been impressed with everybodys vast knowledge and willingness to support and share it with other members. I've just recently

purchaced an original R-360 snare and have started to restore my mid-60's Rodgers R-360 kit. Right now my big mystery is the "Frankenstein" snare I bought with it 25 years ago. It has lugs I've never seen before, Rogers snare throw-off, 3 extra holes where the throw-off is mounted and a Ludwig

mid-60's Keystone Badge on it. Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts about this strange guy.

Steve West

The lugs are a Pearl stencil type, likely in that era froma Royce/Maxwin kit. The shell is also a stencil, likely a Pearl Taiwan. That is a mahogany lauan shell. I have a couple if those and they actually sound pretty sweet, however I am also a master at working them over and coaxing the sound out iof them. It is there, just hidden away.

The "Rogers" strainer is an unknown for me, maybe someone else knows it's origin.

Welcome to a whole new addiction.

Bug, I'm pretty sure you got that right. I had picked up a Slingerland snare a few years after I bought the set and totally forgot about the "Frank" snare till recently. Then was shocked to see the badge from the 60's.

Thanks jonnistix, that sounds right too. I've had a couple of no badge MIJ sets with simular shells. The black wrap on this one is pretty thick. My others had very thin sparkle wrap. It seems like a fairly desent drum but someone had way too much fun with it.

Hi,As jonnistix stated the drum is a M.I.J. snare from sometime in the 70s but by the washers on the inside on the lugs could be late 60s..The "Rogers" strainer is off a skinny snare sometime from 1960s,that is a very rare strainer you have and will bring alot of money your way..Mikey
