Pounder, never got your PM - can you resend it so I can have a look at the kit you're talking about?
1965 Ludwig Super Classic Bass Drum Mount Riddle??? Last viewed: 3 hours ago
I've come across this cool 1965 silver sparkle Ludwig Super Classic kit on eBay that is just what I'm looking for....
So back to square 1. If you like it, buy it, keeping in mind that it's a players kit now. There are a finite # of vintage Ludwigs left(Pounder & O-lugs had some great points above), so we will encounter many more of these..."It would be all original , BUT..." so if it's just what you're looking for you better get it before one of those pesky lurkers does. Storm Trooper

Well my take on it , is if the aftermarket double tom mount bothers you now, That feeling will intensify in time. Take your time and wait until you find one that you want without question... Then before you know it, you'll have the bug like the rest of us...

That is an excellent point! I have a recently acquired blue oyster kit (from eBay) that has a Slingerland set-o-matic mount on the bass and tom. Can't tell you how many times I've looked at it and think "modify" then think "just leave it be." If it doesn't make sense to you now, it never will, especially on a bass drum that you will spend hours looking at when playing. Once it's modified you can't go back. Thanks Slingalud for your insight.Cool Dude

I'm gonna wait and find one without the mount. I do get the fact that there will most likely be at least one problem with any set that I find but the mount just doesn't do it for me.
I need to find some more leads on kits instead of ebay and craigsslist... maybe it's time to go to (shudder) garage sales and estate sales.

Well, depending on were you live, those could well be excellent places to find a smokin' deal. Maybe you'll find a Citrus Mod Octaplus or BigBeat, or Rock Duo in immaculate condition, or a Black Panther anything with Orange Mod under the wrap.....and hit a homerun and then you will be able to find 2 kits.....
See what happens when you hang around this place?
