1966 Ludwig Club Date-Ebay Last viewed: 7 hours ago

Hey everyone,

I'm new to this forum, and really look forward to being a part of it!

I recently won an auction on Ebay for a great Ludwig Club Date kit, 8x12, 14x14, 14x20 with a flawless champagne sparkle finish. In the posting the pics showed the clean insides of the toms, with date stamp still intact, and mentioned "a couple small creaks" in the inner ply of the bass drum. One of the pictures (identical to the first one posted below) was included to show these "creaks".

The kit arrived today...and here's where my explanation/questions begin.

As you'll see in the pictures provided, these small creaks he mentioned were actually not small and were seemingly intentionally left out of the picture. And most troubling to me is the lifted portion that you will see in the second pic, which is located to the left of the cracks shown in the third pic.

So, my first question is are these issues I should be really worried about, and if so, how can I fix them or keep them from getting worse? At the very least, what should I use to glue down that piece so I don't accidentally rip it off?

Secondly, to those of you familiar with Ebay, does this constitute "deceptive" description on the sellers part? If so, any suggestions?

And finally, although the seams are tight on the outside of all the drums, there is some slight cracking/spacing between the seams. Is that to be expected on a kit born in 1966? I can post more pics later on...

Thanks in advance for any help that you all can offer...much appreciate.

What were the dates?I have never seen cracking like that inside a drum, could be the pics but the paint looks less white than ludwigs I have seen from that era.You should be able to glue down the lift.If they sound good I guess you are O.K ,but not showing or mentioning the lift and the extent of the damage sure seems deceptive to me,If you paid top dollar for them I would see about a return,or some sort of refund /discount on them to offset the repair and what looks to be misrepresentation.

Thanks for the reply.

I think the reason the color seems off to you is because I stuck my hand inside the drum to take the pictures. And I compressed the life out them to get them posted.

I just sent a message the seller seeing how we might be able to proceed, although the listing stated no returns.

By the way, I payed $850 shipped to me...

this is a fairly common occurrence in these ludwig shell,. its an easy fix, good ole Elmer's wood glue, either a wood clamp or a heavy weight to hold the wood down while it dries, this is an easy fix, club dates are my favorite wood ludwig drums, they sound far better than a super classic kit, the club dates have less hardware mounted to the shell which means the shells vibrate freely and less restriction than a super classic shell does, a little repair and you'll be the happiest kid on the block! this will be a tough thing with feebay! maybe contact the seller and tell him you'll have to spend some money to get them fixed would he be willing to reimburse some shipping charge money back to you or something to that nature! Where telling a little white lie here because your doing the repair work yourself, it will make a better bonding experience to you with your new clubbies!! OOPS forgot one thing!Welcome to the VDF!!

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!
