Late 1920's/Early 1930's Ludwig Juvenile Snare Drum Last viewed: 8 hours ago

Was wondering if anyone had any information on this drum I picked up at a local sale recently. From looking online I have been able to determine it is most likely from 1929-1933 and was the base model Ludwig Juvenile Snare Drum. It seems to be all original, besides heads and the snare wire and is in really good shape considering it is almost 80 years old.

I purchased the drum to use as the snare in my one man band set-up, but I don't want to start drilling holes in it for legs etc... if it is particularly valuable or should be in a museum or something.

I have attached a few pics and a couple of catalog pages featuring the drum I found at a Vintage Drum website.

Any insight is much appreciated.

Thanks I appreciate the response and I agree that it does not really make sense to alter the drum. Do you have any idea on value?

I am on a limited budget and needs something to fill the role that this drum was going to fill before I realized it was so old.

In other words if I don't alter this drum I need to find something else to use and could definitely use some advice on the trade or resale value of this drum.

Thanks!

I like your response, they sell in the $50.00 to $100.00 dollar range, but they have a very limited buyer range because of what it is, that would make an awesome mounted tom on a snare drum stand, just remove the snare wires and your done! you can place your ludwig in the For Sale And trade sections here on the forum,

One other thing also, if your going to use it for a mounted tom, you'll want to remove all the snare strainer and butt end, so as not to be rattling and driving you crazy! but save it all in a bag or a good place as not to loose it! and mount modern plastic heads on it, you'll want to check it for roundness,I have a early 50's WFL 10x14 snared rum that I use sometimes as a mounted tom it roars, Don't forget fred from the kentucky headhunters did that as did levon helm, they are killer mounted toms!
