For the asing price they have i would buy it just for the head--top-- 1960's--the snare drum looks to be a piece of junk or a kid's toy drum from the 60's also. The strainer looks M.I.J. to me..Mikey

thanks for the info guys,

i am an artist as well as a drummer and i really love vintage artwork, its amazing what people used to do by hand before computers got in the mix.

I'm sure that head is pretty valuable on its own, don't know much about it.

the person selling it is an 85 year old jazz drummer, he got this drum for his birthday when he turned 10 years old. i assumed it was a beginner snare but i really like the look of it.

Saw it on eBay last week and on CL this week.

If I had the money to spare for a cool novelty item like this it would be long gone by now.

I really like it, but it doesn't fit into my "bean bag" right now.....:)

Nah, that is a Ludwig that has been spray painted. Ask him, I'll bet he sprayed it several years ago.

The strainer is an add-on.

Clapping Happy2 that's why i say get it. The artwork is way cool, i'd so hang it up in the drum room. This has given me the idea to make a replica piece of artwork for the drum room , maybe a 15 x 15 canvas with an old head mounted in the center. I'm more of a sketch artist so it will be fun to work with some paintbaby crawl2

Because the drum is made so 'cheap'ly, I lean towards a store display advertisement thingy. Doesn't this just scream ad? My guess is this was something a store would have hung on the wall or setup near the Evans head display.

i spoke with the seller, he is in his mid-eighties and said his parents got him this drum for his 10th birthday.

he told me he has been in the paino retail business for over 40 years and picked up the Evans head at a trade show in his travels. the head is mint and never played. i think i will definitely pick up this drum, maybe sell the head for around $50 bucks or so if i can. i plan on calling Evans to get some info and date it.

im sure the drum is most likely a crap beginners drum from way back when, but for the slingerland stand and the head alone i will grab it. fun stuff Walking

thanks for all the info guys!

I'm pretty sure that's a 1930s Slingerland student model single tension snare drum. I've seen a few. The Slingerlands had that "pointy" bead on the shell...

Obviously the throw off on your drum was added many years later.

If it's the drum I think it is, there would be two or small holes on the shell in addition to the ones that the new strainer are mounted on.

The drum itself, even if all original, doesn't have much value...but that head is certainly worthwhile.
