I've learned from a George Way "guru" that I greatly respect that he's only seen two (2) George Way 4.5 x 14 Casino model snare drums.
Is this particular model really that rare and, if so, why?

You're too kind! The reason why the Casino model is so rare is that ALL George Way drums are rare. There really aren't that many out there as he was fairly small. When things finally started to gain momentum he had the rug pulled out from under him by John Rochon. Once John had bought up 51% of GW shares he booted George & Elsie Way, moved operations from Elkhart to Oaklawn and changed the name to Camco. So George Way drums were only made from '57-'61. Drum sets seem to be more rare than snare drums but I know of around a dozen or so kits out there.
The Casino model is also listed in the Camco catalog but I really doubt they ever made one. GW standard snares were 5.5x14 so a 4.5x14 makes sense. Camco changed the standard to 5x14 so the 4.5x14 no longer makes sense. I still have yet to see a Camco Casino model. I had a collector recently tell me he has one measuring in at 4 3/4". I'm sorry but in my book that's still a 5" drum. For it to be 4.5 it should measure 4 1/2" or less NOT more.
I had a fake one made and it does sound cool but I prefer the 5 or 5.5 to it. The 4.5 starts to sound a little on the piccolo side of things which I personally don't care for all that much. But if you find a real one, be sure to send it my WAY!!!Yes Sir

STEVE: In regard to your style of playing, I truly do admire it. Back when I was a young man many many years ago, my favorite drummer to watch was Dino Danelli of the Rascals. I found him to be extremely clean and precise while being wonderfully entertaining at the same time. He was a true professional IMHO as well as quite the showman.
Years later I was fortunate enough to see David Garibaldi live when he played with Tower of Power in their early years. I was very impressed with his style also.
I was fortunate enough to view a couple of your videos and your crisp style of play is quite impressive. You look extremely comfortable behind your kit and it's obvious that you have a passion for what you're doing. Unfortunately, I never achieved that level of play.
As far as the George Way Casino Model snare, I'm the gentleman who's got the one in the Black Diamond Pearl wrap. It's definitely one of my favorites.
THANKS for the additional information you provided regarding the company as well as this particular model. It's greatly appreciated!
Oh right. I love your GW Casino model, very nice example. I've also recently been aware of a blue sparkle Casino model plus the black one that Harry C. got off of Ebay. That now makes it 3 that I know of.
