I'm in the process of having my 1954-55 vintage Gretsch round badge kit restored. I am thinking about using a modern RIMS mounting system for the tom and floor tom (basket style). I bought a set of heavier duty extension legs for the bass drum, so I've already departed from the most historically acurate restoration (and I am having them wraped, because I painted over the Nitron Copper Mist that was the orignal finish). The original rail consolette tom mount seems to choke the drum a bit. Any thoughts on this? Has anyone else gone this route? Am I making the purists cringe or am I diminishing the potential value?

A RIMS system mounted off a cymbal stand won't hurt the value, because it doesn't involve any additional drilling. A rewrapped 3 ply 20-12-14 kit with no extra holes, original edges and interiors, is still worth quite a bit of money. If the extending bass drum spurs require extra holes, that would greatly diminish the value of the set, even cutting it in half.
