Identify my Rogers drums?

Loading...

Hello! I'm new here and unfortunately, inexperienced when it comes to identifying drums. When I bought my kit about ten years ago, all I knew was that it was a vintage Rogers set. I've been trying to identify what year it is through this website but all I know is that it is post 1976 due to the "Big-R" badge. It is a metal shell, with a block wood finish, and natural interior. Do you know what these drums might be worth? Hopefully these pictures will tell more than I can.

From what I can see, the interior of your bass drum looks like speckled gray. Your Floor Tom mounts are memrilock. Your Finish is ButcherBlock. The year would be 1978.

I must say that I have never been a fan of butcher block but those are an exception!! They look real cool.

Awesome. Thanks for the help identifying them! Do you know, in a range, how much these might go for? I'm looking to sell them and I'm not sure what would be a fair price.

lwise, if my thinking is right, those are Xp8 drums, which are 8 plies of maple, awesome drums! However, they're not really that sought after. In my opinion the value they bring does not match their quality. There was someone trying to sell a set on here for awhile, for maybe $500, and had a difficult time selling them.

And in a much more desirable finish. I also had some Ludwigs with a Cortex wrap on them....not a pretty thing to try and sell. Good, no, great drums...but nobody likes these Cortex wraps. Mine was Mahogany, in fantastic condition. Tiny bit of rash on the bass, and that was it, vibrant color, just no interest. I ended up selling them on C/L for 300. Granted, I had an incomplete set, but you get the drift. At least you have the snare. Is it a Dynasonic? If so, it is worth a couple a bones itself, so that would ease the pain of the rest of the sale.

Is this your first drum set, and if so, you may want to reconsider and hold on to them. Every single person I know that has had a truly vintage kit as a first kit has regretted selling. Even some guys that started with MIJ stuff will admit, though quietly, they really miss that first cool old set they first had, even if they did souind like crap (which many did and many more did not, but that is another story entirely). Anyway, good luck with them. You can always list them on C/L in Wichita, KS and see how it goes. They get stupid money for drums there, for some strange reason, maybe because it such a small market and not many vintage kits around...?

Those are not XP8 drums, as they would not have the speckled grey interior. Nonetheless, they are still great drums, but I would agree that the big R drums don't command the money that they should.

The snare drum is a dynasonic.

We still do not know if the drums are natural interiors, XP8 or Big R speckled gray five ply.

The pic looks like speckled gray.
