I was told my 69' Luds are a Rock Duo, two 20" virgin bass drums, 12, 13, 16

I just bought a 64' 22" kick to match the kit to use for rock gigs (as you can see in my signature)

So now I have 2 20s, a 22", and a non matching 24" slingerland. Even before I got the 22 I had no use for both 20s and one would just sit in the case. So I have been kicking around the idea of selling one of the 20s.

My reasoning was that I am running out of places to put all my gear and I have no use for more then one 20" bass drum, and I just spent a lot of money for the 22" + case and some other cases and gear.

So the small rational voice says, "you don't need it, and you can get good money for it"

But, it is in such good shape that I am having a very tough time parting with it, wondering if it will be a big mistake.

Will selling and splitting up the set severely devalue my kit?

On the other hand, it is sitting in a padded humes&berg enduro case in a basement where the average humidity is 60-70% in spring/summer, will this be harmful? What % is too much and too little?

Any words of encouragement?:confused:

Yes, it would be UNLESS you sold it to me since I've been looking for what seems to be forever for a 20" champagne sparkle bass to go with my two matching toms.

Seriously though, whatever you decide to do, think it over very thoroughly before taking action since you definitely don't want to end up with that dreaded physical ailment infamously known as "seller's remorse" (lol)!

If you do end up selling the 20" bass, I'd appreciate it greatly if you'd drop me a PM and let me know what you'd be looking to get for it.

If you're looking to sell it ever in the future, then keep the bass drum. If you're going to keep this kit 'til the bitter end, then sell away!

I, personally, think it's a sin to split up a desirable/rare kit, but it's not my kit, and it wouldn't be the first time in history anyone has done THAT.

Does anyone know what is the ideal humidity or how high or low it can go before it becomes damaging?

Well, high humidity is ravaging over time, and you live in an area that is just, by nature, highly humid. If you are going to continue to keep the drums in the basement, I suggest using moisture control in the form of a dehumidifier. Yes, it is a pain to keep up, but look at the alternative. Keeping them cased will help immensly to protect against damage, but high humidity is always a bad thing. Keeping the humidity to around 50-ish % would be closer to ideal

I've been thinking about selling one of the basses off of my Rock Duo too (70s oyster black). The mounts are added, and the toms' wrap are cracked some, so probably not the condition yours are in.

If they were in really good shape, I wouldn't think of splitting them up.

HEY!

I'm looking for a Strata 20 inch bass. That oyster might actually work. Never considered that. Would you be willing to sell it? It might actually look interesting. If it's a nice one worth lots of dough ... disregard. I just need some goofy strata bass for my next mutant project.

Ah, you wouldn't want this drum, it has so much tarnish and rust on the steel wrap, it almost looks like its own finish! It truly is a beater drum, I would make more parting it out as the chrome is pretty desent and the hoops are not all nicked up.

To everyone else, this is the reaction I figured would happen and I think I just needed to hear it. So Thank you all!! Thankfully my wife is ok with me keeping it......she said I'd never be able to sell it anyway :) .......now I got to dig up anything to get rid of............anyone need some old shoes?

I think it would be cool to save for a RIMS Dynamount cradle and use one 20" for a floor tom that matches your kit. It will not damage the drum and you can use it for some rock gigs. 24/13/16/20 setup would be fun:D
