Hey new friends...
I haven't bought anything vintage in a long time and wanted to get another opinion.
Here is a slingerland I found on craigslist.
He is asking $200 but my budget is less than that.
He says it is mid 60's with new heads. He says the chrome is worn but nothing out of the ordinary. The ad does not mention if it is a wood snare. I assume it is.
Lets also assume, for now, that the thing is not an oval.
Any opinions on the value?

Better pics would help but I think its worth it. It just may turn out to be a solid shell. Offer 150.00 and if he bites you got a real good deal!

I am no slingerland expert but I assume they didnt make any dogs in the mid 60's?

Look in the catalog section of this website.I don't think Slingerland was making single flange hoops with hooks that late-60's.And the throwoff is made for seperate single snares.If this ends up being a 50's 3-ply with rerings BUY IT.They are beautiful,woody toned drums.Or a single-ply.But a single ply with hook rims and chrome plating?Probably mid-late 50's.
Snare drum on this site-pretty much the same but sparkle-1958 Student model.Won't be a single-ply.
Until '68 or so, the Student Model Radio King, or Student Model Snare Drum had single flange hoops and clips.
I have two of them, both from 1963.
Both are 3-ply
And, to me $200 would be a good price if all is well with the condition. Just my opinion.
I stand corrected-seems like ancient technology for 68'.
HI, Matt, i had appraised this drum for Jeff, and advised him about the age model name and price they are bringing on ebay, there is one currently on ebay now at $178.00+ shipping which puts it over $200,00 these are way under valued drums single flange brass rimed drums are supurb sounding drums

Maybe they still had a lot of single flange hoops and clips left laying around ........:)......
Thanks for the info guys. Turns out the seller said he was being contacted by a bunch of vintage guys to tell him to sell for more and he is just going to hold onto it.
Guess I gotta continue the hunt elsewhere. I thought that was a little weird. Can you really tell its worth more from one tiny thumbnail? Anyway....

I can't imagine a bunch of vintage guys calling this guy and telling him it's worth more but I can imagine them wanting to buy it. It's not like the dude was asking $10.00 for it. Maybe he got so many replies that he started questioning his price.
