Thanks for that, I'm relieved! The seller didn't know, so I was able to get his price down because of that. I did a search on these cymbals, and it seems more than one guy thinks they sound like Zildjian A's. I'd love that, but we'll see.

Any idea about the engravings on it? Was that standard practice? Where do these cymbals stand in the hierarchy of vintage cymbals?

Rotocasting. I read that UFIP cymbals use and patented this method.

Basically, you pour the bronze into a cast that sits on machine that spins it at about 1000rpm, thereby taking out any air bubbles, which creates a better, stronger pour. The method has been used for many different industrial purposes over the years with great success.

It sounds like a sound method for creating cymbals. How do the other cymbal makers replicate this? Does it really matter?

I happened upon a Kashian 20" ride that I just had to buy. To me, it DOES sound like a vintage A. It's a little on the heavy side, so it has clear definition, but unlike the A rides of comparable weight I've owned, it still has a nice spread of wash. It's the best of both worlds--it's like an old A, but better! I think it's a fluke, like I got an exceptional specimen, as I haven't heard any other rotocasted cymbals that sound this good.

I don't see too many Kashians around. I'm curious about how your 18" crash sounds.

You know, your not the first guy to say your Kashian sounds better than a Zildjian A. A lot of guys on the forums have stated the same thing. So I have to say, I'm feeling pretty optimistic about how this cymbal will sound. The seller said he didn't know if it was B20 for sure, but judging by the sound for riding or crashing, he figured it has to be. Also, if its a 70s era, it will be.

So I'm hoping yours is not a fluke and I also get a great sounding crash/ride.

Are rotocasted cymbals normally not that good? Seems like a process that would make sense for cymbal making.

So I received my Kashian crash/ride today, and I couldn't be happier with it.

The first thing I did was clean it up, and it cleaned up really well with a little Bar Keep. Then I played it and I have to say I loved it. It has a very pleasant ride sound, which should work pretty well in most music. It has a nice bright crash that can cut through, with a good amount of wash, which is a nice contrast to my dark Agop's which decay quickly.

So this purchase was a shot in the dark that worked out well. I wanted an 18" crash, and now I have a beauty with the added bonus of a nice ride sound and a cool bell tone to.

Well, I liked the 18" so much, I put an offer in on a 20" Kashian ride and it was accepted! DOH
