Hi, all - can you tell me whether this bass drum has been tampered with? I don't recognize the tom mounts. Thanks!
Ludwig Bass Drum Question
That's the Modular mount, which started in the late 70's . Looks original to me, just set at a weird angle.
It`s all Luddy. Just set a little forward.

Yeah, modular system mount set up very weirdly.

The thing is, Ludwig drilled for their badge to face the audience, now if you did that, the spurs would be out front and the badge would be too.
I`ve never seen that mount, there.

The modular hardware changed, they mounted up front so the big 1" tom arms could point back. The classic mount was in the center and some early modular was too. As always anything was possible with Ludwig.

All the modular mounts I've seen are placed at the front of the drum like it is there. They had to change the positioning of the badge to accommodate the new base plate oriented out front (just as they had to move it from top dead center on bass drums in the early 60's when they introduced the center post mount). The odd thing here is whomever set them up has the arms facing the wrong way, the toms should be over top the bass drum, not floating out in front of it. Also back then Ludwig always placed their bass drum badges so that they were positioned for the drummer to read right side up from behind the set. This would be the standard top of the line tom mounting hardware for a set made between 1979 and 1984 (when the badge was changed to the large keystone).
Not only did they change the location of the bass drum badge, they left it there! It may be an option now to put it towards the front of the bass drum again but in 2012 when I ordered my classic maple set, I asked if they would put it in the correct spot and they said no. It's the only thing on my entire set that bothers me. Other than that they have been fantastic.

At that point I would have asked for SONOR`s phone number,....they have it.

Thanks, all. I might take the plunge on this kit. Good price. I’ll post photos if I do...
