Rogers clones Last viewed: 4 minutes ago

Maybe you Rogers lovers know that there is a remake of the iconic Dyna.sonic snare drum. I heard it was being made by Pork Pie. Not totally sure. And will be distributed by Maxwell Drum Shop in New York. Price is $ 800. So far one wrap, White Marine Pearl. More to come. And possibly full drumsets to follow. And as demand might grow, they will most likely be made in Taiwan .I think this is a bad idea. And have been against it from the start. As a vintage collector / player of original Rogers, I hate to see the Rogers name dragged through the mud like they did with Gretsch, flooding The Guitar center with made In China " Gretsch" drums. What do you guys think ?

There is a DW snare that is an obvious clone (an expensive one) of the DynaSonic...has snare frame and all. The shell has the inward beads at top and bottom, but no lines in the middle. Looks sort of like the Powertone or Super Ten shell. The ad wording is obviously a nod to the DynaSonic, but does not mention it by name.

Good lord Larry. You are going to have to run for Congress or something to stop this from happening.

I have a DW Tru-Sonic.

I purchased a new Rogers Dyna-Sonic ... beautiful looking drum, excellent craftsmanship on the stuff I have seen so far. I will get it sometime in September.

I do own 17 Dyna-Sonics.

They aren't "clones."

The DW.... while a Dyna-Sonic class design, does demonstrate significant improvements over the original design. It is not a clone. It is a new drum, (within the design parameters of the Rogers Dyna-Sonic) but a drum well deserving its own identity. Fails to meet criteria for being considered a clone.

The new Rogers USA Dyna-Sonic........ it is a Dyna-Sonic. It is Rogers. It is genuine. Get over it already.

I did use the term "clone " loosely, not intending to denigrate either drum in any way. I have two Dynas, from about 1969 or so. One is complete (with snare frame and original snares), the other came without the snare frame, and had those ubiquitous generic "duplex" snares that numerous other drum manufacturers use. But you know what? Both drums sound great, just in a different way. The complete one has what I guess is the DynaSonic sound, which is crisp, kind of dry, and you can still hear the "doot " sound of the shell, like when the snares are off. The other one sounds like lots of other brass drums with regular snares, which is to say, good. The very shallow snare beds on the Dyna makes it fussy about what type of snares you can use, but it is possible, despite what has been said in the past. (Puresound Blasters work great).

Call Dave Drew ... Drews Music in Woonsocket. he can set you up with a frame. ...or Call Maxwells in Chicago, buy one of the New Rogers USA made frames, with Wires, about 75.00

Technically these wouldn't be clones since someone does own the Rogers trademark and they are the ones making the drums (I think it's Dixon) for Steve Maxwell. Most of the reports from people who have actually seen the drums (I saw them at the Chicago show but didn't pay that much attention) have been more or less glowing. Steve tends to do these things right.

Probably a win win for most folks unless you have a bunch of wood Dynas you were planning to use for your retirement.

The DW could be considered, if not a clone, a copy of the basic Dyna snare design, although if the patent has expired (I imagine it has) then anyone is free to exploit that design.

I had been thinking about getting a replacement frame for the other Dyna, but I kinda like having the two different sounds. They both really do sound great, and depending on which kit I'm playing them with, one or the other will work better in terms of snare buzz.

I don't get the bitterness toward these new Rogers drums. I don't own a single Rogers snare, but as the owner of a '69 Holiday set, I'm still excited to see what the future holds for this company...whether my set drops in value or not. For the record, if it does, I doubt it will be significant.

After the Yamaha fiasco, I could certainly understand your concern, but after seeing the teaser pics and descriptions on the new website's soft launch in January and then all the accounts from Rogers fans who saw and played the Dynas in person at the Chicago drum show that the quality is exceptional (as well as the few who purchased one and have it in their hands), I honestly don't know why you're still adamantly against it.
