Found this kit as a potential workhorse, club/pub kit, and was wondering what you Gretsch guys

have to say about them ? Birch shells, which i like, and the finish is even nicer..

Cool name to the finish too !.. Price is negotiable, and the seller is not a drummer. He said that the bass drum is 22x20, but i'm assuming it's a 22x18, seeing as how upon doing some research, i believe Gretsch only has this series with 18" depth on bass drums, and the rest of this configuration is 10-12-16-22..

Well, so much for that.. Just realized how far the guy lives..

There's no way i'm going all the way down there, just to check out a kit..

I don't have a car and couldn't ask a friend to drive that far..

But would still like to hear your opinions on the kit anyway ;)

Bummer it's so far away. I have a few Gretsch kits and love them. The Catalina line does sound fantastic and would be great for the venues your talking about. The finish is a cool one. I have a kit in the Blue Alien Wrap, it was only available for a year or two and extremely hard to find.

No Guru - I just love collecting & learning about vintage drums!

Some of my favorites from the kits in the collection
58 WFL New Yorker Blue Sparkle
67 Ludwig Hollywood Red Psychedelic
69 Ludwig Standard Red Ruby Strata
70's Ludwig BOP "Ringo" Kit

A few of my favorite snares
20's Leedy Black Elite
51 Leedy & Ludwig Knob Tension
58 WFL Buddy Rich Classic Blue Sparkle
63 Walberg & Auge Sea Blue Agave Green Pearl
66 Leedy Shelly Manne Blue Agate Pearl

Hey JIM ! I'm seriously considering this kit now..

I'm going to store the Yamaha because i haven't had any decent offers or much interest.. Just a bunch of ignorants and lowballers..I find it strange, seeing as how Montreal is very much a Yamaha town in regards to drums..Maybe all those drummers are retired or don't need another kit anymore, and the only drummers left now only want vintage Ludwig or modern kits..:confused:Yes Sir

The best offer i got was $1200, which i was extremely happy with, but then the guy never replied back. I asked him if he was still interested, and he said that the kit wasn't in the sizes he was looking for, even after i clearly posted the sizes in the ad.. As i said before, ignorants.. Did i also mention there were plenty of idiots too ?? Lol !

Hey Michael,

Yeah, it's a shame it's really far.. But i'm still going to scope the classifieds for a while before i consider this kit..

It may even be gone by the time i decide to do anything.. But then i found these guys..

Another favorite of mine..The powerhouse of the 80's, in very good condition..

This one is a major contender as well to possibly be my next kit.

I owned one of those Superstar kits for years and played a ton of shows with them. This is your workhorse and they are fantastic in those sizes, you could probably get it for $500.

Keep fixing them up...

The Tama deal is a far better deal. Those are quite sought-after....and the quality of build and sound is top-notch. They will only go up in value as they become more rare/old.

The same can not be said for the Catalina (which is more money anyway).

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

I have a penchant for the Superstars, especially in those sizes and finish! They are like fine furniture. But I admire your restraint.

1970 Ludwig Blue Oyster Super Classic
1977 Rogers Big R Londoner 5 ebony
1972/1978 Rogers Powertone/Big R mix ebony
60's Ludwig Supersensitive
Pearl B4514 COB snare ( the SC snare)
Pearl Firecracker
PJL WMP maple snare
Odds & Sods

Sabians, Paistes, Zildjians, Zyns, UFIPs, MIJs etc
