It's only a 3-ply shell.I didnt know Slingerland made this type of drum. You can tell it's all original with the exception of the hoops/tension rods. The grommet indicates the drum drum has not been altered. My ? is,what do I have?[Attachment: 107727]

You have a late 50`s early 60`s Gene Krupa Radio King.

With strange hoops and a lot of splay !!

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

Well you got the Chicago badge with the stick throw, and I`m not too sure but the hoops could be Radio King as well. Maybe yours at one time had the stick choppers with clips.

The last two like yours I`ve seen were in the 500 something and 600 something range.

There are Slingy guys here that could be more specific.

The hoops look aftermarket to me. Just your run-of-the -mill COS

Generally only the Radio King models had the snare bridges (or whatever you call them) but in later years Slingerland wasn't necessarily "married" to using the solid maple shell exclusively for these models despite what the catalog said. There were "student" versions in the catalogs with three ply shells but they lacked the bridges. Very easy to imagine a special order version of one of those student models with the bridges added and/or a regular RK being built with a standard 3 ply shell.

My guess is those hoops are modern stick saver imports. I bought some for a vintage Slingy snare (metal shell) and the splay was bad enough that I couldn't use them.

This is a Slingerland cataloged Radio King a lot like yours with hoops a lot like yours. Not engraved.
