The 51 cat has scription that reads, "the Hollywood Ace Radio King Model", Which is why I consider an Ace a Radio King.

This is a late Chicago badge drum. '59-'61 not 1951. By your line of reasoning is the 1971 cataloged Hollywood Ace also a Radio King?

It`s not a line of reasoning, it`s a description Slingerland gave it for that era.

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

Because of that badge and strainer, I would have no issue advertising it as a Radio King minus the hoops, because it is.

It is actually a description Slingerland gave it for that year, 1951. It is described quite differently '59-'61.

Correct, and with that badge and throw, it`s Radio King.

It appears that after 60/61 Slingerland no longer put that throw on the Ace. So an Ace with that badge and throw is Radio King. The Krupa as well.

During the Chicago era Slingerland ceased using the Radio King name to describe their drums. What year(s) was that?

Around 59/60 ish. But not the throw, it`s always been referred as Radio King Strainer. The Ace never sported the RK throw without that badge.

OK. Some sources say it is '57 or '58 thru '61. The first year(s) are debatable but '59 thru '61 are known years when Slingerland did not use the Radio King name for their top line drums. Technically these are not Radio Kings. These drums are Gene Krupas and Super Gene Krupas. If Slingerland did not call them Radio KIngs why should we. Correct and acceptable terms for these drums could be; similar to the Radio King, like its predessor the Radio King, same as the Radio King but called the Super Krupa in this year etc. Unacceptable terms are Radio KIng, original Radio King or genuine Radio King. Why did Slingerland drop the Radio King name? Perhaps it was just old (started in 1936) and by the mid fifties Television was the new king. The name was reissued in 1962 and used throughout the Niles era but only for specific snare drums.

After 63 anything Radio King has that strainer. Before that, The hookless "S' badge with that throw, I would not have issues calling it a Radio King.

The term Super Gene Krupa, is cataloged (55) as Radio King with Clamshell throws too.

To this day I can call a Ludwig DeLuxe a BB, and my 98 GMC a Chevy.

Maybe Buddy Rich had a role in Slingerland ditching the name for a spell.
