A Good Slingerland deal? Last viewed: 17 hours ago

Loading...

Hello,

These have been posted for a few weeks on my local area Craigslist.

The price isn't bad, but that 16" floor tom looks awfully shallow, doesn't it? I wonder if it's a 15" converted parade drum? Did Slingerland make non "square" sized floor toms (meaning shallower in depth than diameter)? Also, are those the correct badges for early 70's?

I haven't looked at them in person. That floor tom has me intrigued. It's hard to tell from the photos if there are any extra holes from a possible strainer or butt filled in. Also, does this look like a re-wrap to anyone?

I like how the ad says "Great Condition", when there are obviously many tension rods and a wood bass hoop missing!

Thoughts?

Thanks,

V

Mid 60's chocolate milk interiors...Nice drums. How much does he want? I would be very tempted.

Keep fixing them up...

I think his photos are squashed.....several of the pics don't look "right" to me.

These are the Stage band series. Also the stage bands doesn't offer a 16" floor tom, Check that out first.

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

Appears to be a 12x15 floor tom which would be correct to some stage band outfits. Not a converted marcher, that was the size they offered early on. Early Ludwig Club Date sets used this same size for a floor tom. Later Ludwig switched to a 14x14. I'm not sure if Slingerland did as well.

Looks like a cool set.

Stage Band floor toms came in 14x14 and 14x16 sizes. No 16x16 were available, as there were no tension rods long enough! Originally, there was a 12x15, but this size was no longer offered by around 1966-67, even though the catalog kit still showed the 15" floor tom.

The CL kit in question is a 8x12, 9x13, 14x16 and 14x20.

You are correct sir!

Given that it has the double set-o-matic it must be a later set (after they stopped using the 12x15) but the ratio of height to depth on that floor isn't square so it must be 14x16.

Good catch! And excellent information Mark! I know for a fact that Slingerland did offer a 14" x 14" in the Stage Band configuration because I have one (pictures of my kit below). K.O. also confirmed this. No date stamp inside the floor tom, but the rack tom is stamped November 1966. I bought all three drums as a set.
