Bobby Colomby Live

Loading...

For all of you who have been waiting for some more Blood Sweat & Tears, trumpet great Lew Soloff has loaded some to Youtube. This is the first I see of it. Perhaps others have noticed. There are some decent shots of Bobby Colomby playing his wine red ripple Rogers set in the clip below, but there are several other videos too.

Thanks for posting! Deja vu all over again for me.....

Bobby loaned me that set in 1978 when we were recording the album "Heaven Tonight" in Los Angeles. He was working for CBS at that time.

The set still had original heads on it, which we took off for the recording and put back on when we finished.

What a great guy!

Great guy and a GREAT drummer! Back in the early 60's when I started playing Bobby was a local (NY) legend and my first role model/drum hero. The guy I learned from was one of Bobby's students, so I'm intimately familiar with his style/approach to the drums and all of his work. One of the best.

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Dan!

This is a really great video and one I've not seen. Thanks for posting! As for Bobby, I can say I always loved his drumming and he was one of only a few "modern" drummers that Buddy Rich liked. That's saying quite a bit!

There were a lot of great drummers back then, it seems Buddy gravitated to the rock/jazz drummers, which is understandable.

It seems that kit has gotten a good workout from Bobby to you, BEC, and on to Mark Knopfler's studio. It's amazing that it has held up so well, still has bright color and folks still want to record with it. I've always been amazed that Colomby just stopped playing. Missed for sure.
